Your New Role
Are you an Azure and AKS expert who enjoys owning outcomes and driving cloud engineering from design through to operation?
As Cloud Engineering Lead – Member Platforms, you’ll sit within the Member Platforms team and play a critical role in designing, building and improving Azure cloud environments that underpin digital platforms used at scale by our member base.
This is a Senior SME role, focused on technical leadership (no direct people management), engineering standards and delivery. You’ll work closely with architects, engineers and delivery teams to ensure platforms are resilient, secure, scalable and aligned to best practice. This role will utilise your strong, all-round technical skills and requires strong Kubernetes skills and experience.
This role suits someone who is comfortable working autonomously, taking initiative and owning work end‑to‑end, from initial design through to implementation, optimisation and continuous improvement. You’ll also bring a curious, AI‑first mindset, proactively exploring better ways of working and leveraging automation to uplift capability across the platform.
What You’ll Do
- Design and implement Azure‑based cloud solutions supporting large‑scale digital/member platforms
- Define and drive engineering standards, patterns, DevOps policies and Infrastructure‑as‑Code approaches
- Build and deploy cloud workloads using Terraform and Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines
- Ensure platform reliability, performance, security and cost optimisation through strong design and operational practices
- Develop and maintain observability, monitoring and alerting to support platform stability
- Partner with delivery teams, architects and stakeholders to drive outcomes from design through to production
What You’ll Need
- Deep expertise in Azure cloud engineering, including IaaS, PaaS and modern cloud architecture patterns alongside:
- Strong Azure Kubernetes Services,
- Microsoft Entra,
- App Services,
- SQL Database
- SQL Managed Instances
- Strong hands‑on experience with Infrastructure‑as‑Code (Terraform) and DevOps practices
- Experience designing and supporting platforms used by large external customer or member bases
- Experience with core Azure services including networking, identity, compute, databases and monitoring
- Strong skills in automation and scripting (PowerShell, Bash or similar)
- Experience working with containers (Docker / Kubernetes) and modern cloud platforms
- Strong understanding of cloud security, governance and policy‑as‑code approaches
- Ability to work autonomously, take ownership and drive work through to completion
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts into clear business outcomes
- Exposure to Azure AI tooling and AI‑enabled engineering practices
- Familiarity with enterprise landing zone design and modern platform engineering approaches
