About the Role (your why)
As part of our Group IT team, the Cloud Engineer role is focused on driving continuous automation and innovation across cloud operations. You’ll have a relentless focus on improving customer experience through automation-first approaches, enabling agility, scalability, and efficiency for our customers’ cloud environments. Acting as a mentor and technical expert, you’ll work collaboratively across teams to uplift platform maturity, solve technical issues, and contribute to optimising our cloud and productivity solutions. Please note that on call is requirement of the role.
Our team is based in Auckland. We like to bring people together in person 2 days in the Auckland office, and we are mindful of the benefits of working from home for work/life balance.
What you’ll do
At the moment, as Cloud Engineer you will be focused on:
- Driving an “automation first” culture to enhance customer experience and strengthen the financial viability of Cloud and Productivity engagements
- Providing technical support remotely via phone, email, or online systems to meet service response times
- Resolving client problems effectively and ensuring clear communication throughout the resolution process
- Identifying and escalating complex technical issues and managing them through to resolution
- Maintaining accurate support records and following up regularly with clients
- Mentoring Support Analysts and contributing to their development and knowledge transfer
- Uplifting automation and maturity across Cloud and Productivity platforms
- Proactively identifying areas for product, services, and education opportunities
- Demonstrating sound Health and Safety practices as per Datacom policy

What you’ll bring
Required experience:
- 3+ years of IT experience, ideally with a development background
- Solid understanding of Windows Server, Active Directory, Enterprise applications, Azure, Entra ID, Web Application Firewalls, Application Proxies
- At least 2 years of experience operating software, hardware, and/or networks
- Knowledge of approaches, tools, and techniques for anticipating, recognising, and resolving automation problems
- Understanding of cloud platform technology strategies and best practices
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Strong problem analysis and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work collaboratively in large teams and contribute to an innovative, agile culture
- Orchestration expertise in private and public cloud provisioning (AWS and Azure preferred)
- Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly and align them with client business goals
- Ideally you would hold relevant certifications including Azure AZ104
- Experience with SSL and PKI certificates
Nice to have:
- Experience within the outsourced IT services market and infrastructure project requirements
- Experience and understanding of storage and backup management
- Bachelor’s degree in business, IT, science, engineering, economics, or a related discipline
- Additional certifications such as AZ-500, MD-102, or other cloud/security-related certifications would be advantageous
