Cloud Engineer

Hastings Deering is seeking a highly capable Systems Engineer to join our IT Operations team based in Archerfield on a permanent, full-time basis.

In this role, you will support the design, delivery and ongoing optimisation of our infrastructure environment across on-premise and cloud platforms.

Working closely with the Cloud Team Lead and broader IT teams, you will play a critical role in ensuring system availability, performance, security and continuous improvement aligned to business needs.

As a Systems Engineer you will:

• Support the availability, performance and ongoing administration of infrastructure systems
• Proactively identify risks and implement strategies to improve system resilience and reliability
• Maintain and optimise cloud (Azure, GCP) and on-premise infrastructure including compute, storage and networking
• Assist with infrastructure projects, contributing technical expertise and solution design
• Implement and maintain backup, recovery and disaster recovery processes aligned to RPO/RTO
• Automate processes through scripting and continuous improvement initiatives
• Provide Level 3 support and assist in mentoring junior team members
• Monitor performance, troubleshoot issues and implement scalable, secure solutions

A successful candidate will demonstrate:

• Tertiary qualifications in IT, Computer Science or equivalent
• Cloud certifications (Azure, AWS or GCP) and/or Microsoft certifications (MCSE or equivalent)
• ~7+ years’ experience in infrastructure or systems engineering roles
• Strong experience across cloud and on-prem infrastructure environments
• Proven ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues and deliver solutions
• Experience with virtualisation, storage, backup and enterprise systems

Highly regarded:

• Experience with VMware, Cisco UCS, Citrix, SCCM and SQL Server
• Exposure to enterprise storage and backup technologies
• Strong scripting and automation capability
• Experience working in large, geographically dispersed environments
