About the Opportunity
National IT is seeking a Cloud Engineer to join the Cloud Engineering Services (CES) Team in support of Federal Reserve System (FRS) technology modernization efforts. NIT CES is a cloud accelerator supporting application infrastructure build & deployment automation for cloud migrations, green field builds, and on-going enhancements primarily within AWS GovCloud.
The team is composed of cloud engineering experts who champion an automation first mindset to deliver cloud solutions focused on operational excellence, security, reliability, performance efficiency, reusability, cost optimization, and sustainability.
Job Summary:
The Cloud Engineer is responsible for developing and delivering automated solutions which enable secure and resilient application infrastructure provisioning (IaC), configuration management (CaC), and operations management (DevOps) across all SDLC environments. Completes analysis of business requirements and architecture supplied designs, as it relates to technical infrastructure design, and ensures traceability of the design to the business requirements. This position requires a seasoned professional with a full solid of industry best practices for application deployment, testing, issue remediation, and monitoring. Requires high level of experience and proficiency in field with proven hands-on delivery.
What You Will Do:
The Cloud Engineer will be accountable for:
- Serving as a hands-on technical Engineer to provide reusable automated solutions aligned with strategic technological directives
- Working knowledge of architecture leveraging cloud-based technologies
- Close collaboration with cloud architects and application development teams to design, develop, build, test, and deliver business application infrastructure in cloud hosting environments
- Oversees problem avoidance actions and assist with environmental software/operating system issue remediation
- Implement changes to business information and technical systems utilizing enterprise Change Management functions and processes. in the cloud hosting environments
- Analyzes and revises existing system logic and documentation as necessary with focus upon accuracy and toil reduction/avoidance
- Evaluates, recommends, and selects new software/services as the become available within GitLab and/or AWS Gov Cloud
- Performs change and problem management using System IT standard tools and practices
- Ensures conformance and compliance with existing system standards defined via the establishment of application NFRs, SLAs, SLOs, and SLIs. Measures application performance via automation to ensure proper operation and availability upon demand as well as throughout application business hours
- Leads highly technical/complex projects utilizing matrixed and non-matrixed resources
- Follows and ensures adherence to technical standards for programming and design techniques (code re-use, repository management, code reviews, etc...)
- Mentors System technical and non-technical staff on developed solution(s), utilized tools, via customer-oriented knowledge transfer sessions as well as runbook documentation and solution demos
- Monitors compliance with internal audit requirements and Information Security Manual guidelines
- Performs other related duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- 4+ years hands-on IT solution delivery engineering experience with cloud services including planning, development, migration and integration of applications and services from on premises infrastructure to cloud based platforms
- 1+ years of interpretive programing experience such as Python (preferred) or Go
- 1+ years shell scripting, Bash preferred
- 3+ years of for hands-on IaC/CaC contributions leveraging Terraform (preferred), ARM Templates and/or CloudFormation
- 3+ years of automated application deployment via automated pipelines (GitLab preferred) leveraging Blue/Green or Carney deployment practices
- Solid understanding of performance/load and functional automated testing practices; automated testing experience a plus.
- Solid understanding of the evaluation of application performance management utilization metrics (CPU, memory, garbage collection, etc...)
- Ansible experience/awareness a plus
- Solid understanding of the DevOps Infinity Loop a plus
- Experience with enterprise public cloud platforms such as AWS and Microsoft Azure; including AWS networking, computing, and security services (e.g. VPC, EC2, AWS Config, AWS Inspector, Guard Duty)
- Experience with CI and Source Code Management tooling (e.g. Git, GitLab) utilizing standard branching strategies
- Flexibility to adjust to multiple demands, shifting priorities, ambiguity, and rapid change.
- Comprehensive knowledge pertaining to concepts and principles in functional area. General knowledge of department/business lines, Reserve Banks, and / or System operations, policies, procedures, and technologies a plus.
- Communications: Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, creativity, attention to detail, and oral and written communications skills tailored for the intended audience.

- Risk Management: The individual is responsible for understanding and applying risk management discipline in decision making and contributing to his or her function’s risk management.

Desired Certifications (AWS):
- AWS Solutions Architect – Associate (desired)
- AWS Certified DevOps Engineer (a plus)
- HashiCorp Terraform Associate (desired)
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience with => 4 years of relevant work experience.

- The hiring range is $90,200 - $123,970 (Experienced), $110,200 - $151,580 (Senior), and $124,200 - $170,720 (Advanced) annually.
- For candidates outside Richmond, VA, listed hiring and salary ranges may be adjusted based on your geographic location.
