The First Five program will provide trauma-informed care to support children and families by strengthening and enhancing services in early learning centers. First Five has an overarching goal of helping early learning center teachers create a trauma-informed culture in their classrooms. Through classroom observation, First Five identifies children needing behavioral support. There are two pathways of service depending on the level of complexity and risk of expulsion that a child is experiencing.

This is a professional position providing clinical consultation in the First Five program. The Clinician will focus on relationship development with families, early learning center staff in tandem with observations in the centers and homes. Additionally, the Clinician will assess and determine the need for behavioral intervention plans for all learners referred to First Five in collaboration with center staff, families, and classroom consultant. The Clinician is an integral member of the First Five Intervention team, IDT process, providing child-specific intervention services, and recommendations for in-home family services. Also, the Clinician will work with the Behavior Specialist, Subject Matter Expert (SME) to help staff and families with training and implementation of behavioral intervention plans. Through home and classroom observation, the Clinician develops individual behavior plans and social skill acquisition protocols for children needing behavioral support by the First Five Intervention Team. The Clinician will focus on the development of trauma informed behavior analysis, coping strategies, etc. with the child and their family in the home setting. Also, the Clinician will assist in implementing strategies developed by the classroom consultant or subject matter expert at home or school.

Through home and school observation, the Clinician identifies children needing behavioral support to determine which of the two pathways of service are most appropriate depending on the level of complexity (low, moderate, or high) that a child is experiencing. The Clinician will also provide immediate on-site access to home-based behavioral and social-emotional consultation for all critical incidents such as a child harming themselves or another person, property destruction, and all other situations that could typically result in a child's expulsion from the early learning center. After addressing incidents with the relevant child, staff, and/or family, and drafting any communication that is necessary to go home to those children's families, the Clinician and team will follow up with a debriefing session with all staff related to the incident to focus on what we did well and what we can do better for future incidents of this nature. This position will work closely with members of the First Five team such as: Behavior Specialist, Subject Matter Expert and Classroom consultant and in collaboration with the early learning staff to provide complete comprehensive services.
