As an experienced Clinical Nurse with a passion for patient safety, quality care and infection prevention, you will join our dedicated team at SJG Murdoch, where you'll play a pivotal role in protecting patients, visitors, and staff through evidence-based infection prevention and control practices.

As a Clinical Nurse – Infection Prevention & Control, you'll work collaboratively with the Infection Prevention & Control team to implement and continually strengthen the hospital's infection prevention program. You'll be a trusted clinical resource, providing expert guidance, education, and support to multidisciplinary teams while promoting best practice and ensuring compliance with infection prevention standards.

The Position

  • Acts as a resource for all hospital personnel in matters pertaining to IP&C and provide recommendations for improvement in all departments.

  • Provides clinical expertise and local leadership to clinical areas on matters pertaining to IP&C.

  • Serve as a patient advocate, protecting the rights and safety of patients at all times.

  • Evaluate the quality of nursing practice and participate in quality improvement initiatives to improve patient outcomes.

  • Ensure the correct use and care of all hospital equipment by self and colleagues.

  • Actively contribute to the development of clinical policies and procedures in area of specialty.

  • Ensure documentation meets hospital standards and legal requirements.

  • Prioritise departmental workloads using resources appropriately and cost effectively.

  • Coordinate the department effectively ensuring continuity of care, and takes action on problems encountered.

  • Participate in the performance management of caregivers in conjunction with the Nurse Manager.

  • Participate in and takes responsibility for the education of other caregivers by conducting formal and informal teaching sessions.

  • Assist in developing, implementing and reviewing specific departmental orientation programs with Nurse Manager, act as a preceptor as required.

  • Supervise the practice of Registered Nurses, Enrolled Nurses and Patient Care Assistants.

  • Assist the Nurse Manager with the submission of annual capital budget and business plans relevant to the Department.

  • Review products and equipment and provide documentation and education on evaluation.

  • Monitor and promote adherence by caregivers to hospital Policies, procedures and standards.

You will demonstrate strong leadership and the ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team. With highly developed communication, negotiation, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills, you'll build positive relationships with surgeons, clinical teams, and medical device representatives. Your exceptional organisational skills will enable you to coordinate and procure loan equipment efficiently, ensuring it is available to support surgical procedures safely and on time.

To succeed you will hold registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse and ideally will currently possess an immunisation/vaccination certificate or be working towards. To be suitable for this role, you will demonstrate specialist clinical knowledge in the areas of Infection Prevention Control.

  • Salary: $109,599 to $115,681 pro rata, plus 12% superannuation

  • A permanent, part-time position, working 21 hours per week

Skills Required

  • Registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse

  • Experience working in infection prevention and control or related clinical leadership roles
  • Current immunisation/vaccination certificate or actively working towards one
