Under the direction of the Director of Education and Nursing Quality, the Clinical Educator (CE) assumes responsibility for assessing the clinical learning needs of the inpatient nursing staff, responding to those needs by serving as a clinical resource and role model, and promoting an environment that encourages professional growth and quality patient care. In collaboration with nursing leadership, the CE supports the educational goals and objectives of the nursing departments.

I. Major Responsibilities:

Clinical Proficiency and Orientation
1.    Assists with orientation and transition of new staff.
2.    Provides individualized clinical education and feedback.
3.    Assesses and addresses ongoing educational needs.
4.    Supports competency development and application.

Learning and Development
1.    Applies adult education principles and varied teaching methods.
2.    Reinforces in-service and continuing education.
3.    Promotes staff growth through mentorship.

Support for Departmental Goals
1.    Assesses clinical practice and documentation.
2.    Provides feedback to managers.
3.    Enhances preceptor and charge nurse skills.

Clinical Expertise and Role Modeling
1.    Maintains clinical and instructional competency.
2.    Demonstrates professional behavior and evidence-based practice.
3.    Participates in staff meetings and utilizes clinical resources.

Communication and Professional Climate
1.    Communicates and collaborates effectively.
2.    Maintains communication with leadership about staff and unit needs.
3.    Promotes respectful, professional relationships and resolves conflict constructively.

Professional Development
1.    Identifies and addresses personal learning needs.
2.    Maintains credentials and certifications.
3.    Pursues development that adds institutional value.

Safety and Policy Adherence
1.    Teaches and follows policies and protocols.
2.    Advocates for safe care and escalates concerns appropriately.
3.    Provides real-time feedback on safety issues.

1.    Adheres to budget and promotes cost-saving.
2.    Considers financial impact of educational activities.

II. Position Qualifications:
License/Certification/Education

Required:
1.    Bachelor’s degree in Nursing
2.    Current RN License in Massachusetts
3.    Current CPR and ACLS certification
Preferred:
1.    Master’s degree in Nursing, Education, Quality, or related field
2.    Certification in a related specialty

Experience/Skills
Required:
1.    Minimum 5 years of current medical, surgical, and cardiac monitoring experience
2.    Bedside teaching experience (e.g., student nurses, preceptees)
Preferred:
1.    Critical care experience

Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.
