The Opportunity

Brunswick Group’s Clearance team tracks all new business coming into the firm and team members deal with  partners across the global network. A role on the Clearance team offers an exceptional opportunity for professional development for a person who appreciates the complexities of risk and relationship management in professional services. The Clearance team reviews every new mandate from across the firm to ensure that potential and actual conflicts of interest, as well as ethical or reputational risks, are identified, analyzed and managed so as to protect client relationships, safeguard confidential information, and ensure that we are able to fulfil our responsibilities to clients prior to accepting a role.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Liaise with sector leaders, practice group leaders and regional partners to understand the firm’s new business opportunities and strategy.
  • Maintain close oversight of all submissions from our six offices in the APAC region.
  • Conduct due diligence of business opportunities by considering current and historical assignments, company ownership details, relevant firm positions and other potentially relevant information, including reputational risks to the firm.
  • Drive and coordinate the review of submissions from our APAC offices, serving as a key point of contact with sector and regional leadership during the course of each review.
  • Document the elements of review for each conflict check in the Clearance team’s confidential database, working closely with the Business Acceptance Team to ensure the accurate capture of data.
  • Collaborate with members of the global Clearance team as well as other groups such as New Business Acceptance, Legal, Compliance, Business Intelligence, Marketing and Finance to identify and resolve potential issues arising during the course of the review process.
  • Monitor the status of opportunities previously cleared in order to proactively identify any potential issues that may arise after completion of the conflict check process through dialogue with client teams and office heads.
  • Work closely with the Head of Clearance, Asia-Pacific Managing Partner, and Clearance partner leads to develop aspects of the Clearance function, including our policies, procedures, training, information management, analysis and reporting.
  • Assist the global Clearance team in the preparation of ancillary materials including periodic status reports to leadership and/or the broader firm and reference materials for sector- and issue-specific discussions with relevant stakeholders.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong communication and research skills and an ability to interact directly with a wide group of professionals at different levels of seniority across the firm, including senior stakeholders.
  • Fluency in English and Mandarin and ability to read and write in Chinese
  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced environment with a high sense of urgency.
  • Ability to work in close coordination with others as part of a small team.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Commerciality and an interest in the corporate world.
  • A global perspective with an appetite for innovation.
  • Proactive and self-motivated.
  • Strong sense of discretion with respect to highly confidential information.
  • Professional and personal integrity; a credible ambassador for and within the firm.
  • Previous experience in conflicts and risk management within an international professional services setting is preferred.
