The Clean Energy Specialist is responsible for conducting technical reviews of projects involving energy efficiency, demand management, and energy conservation in the Commercial & Industrial (C&I) Energy Efficiency Program. This role focuses on evaluating and assessing the technical components of submitted projects, identifying potential issues, and recommending appropriate solutions. In addition, the Senior Specialist serves as a key technical liaison, providing engineering guidance to internal teams, participating contractors, and customers to support the adoption and implementation of energyefficient technologies.

This position does not provide employment pursuant to the terms of a STEM OPT Training Plan.

ResponsibilitiesCore Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive technical reviews of complex energy efficiency and demand management projects. Evaluate project specifications, design documents, and technical data to ensure compliance with program eligibility requirements, state/city codes, industry standards, and best practices.
  • Prepare reports detailing technical review findings and recommendations for program teams, participating contractors and stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external vendors to provide technical guidance. Advise customers on incentive eligibility and technical requirements for both prescriptive and custom paths.
  • Participate in meetings with project teams, participating contractors, stakeholders, and other engineering professionals as required.
  • Review and approve measurement and verification (M&V) reports for large, complex, custom energy efficiency projects.
  • Develop, maintain and refine Con Edison excel based program energy savings tools (e.g., the Building Automation System (BAS) calculator) to standardize energy savings estimations across our program.
  • Conduct site visits to verify equipment installation, assess operational parameters, and ensure the technical viability of proposed projects.
  • Identify and evaluate new emerging technologies relevant to our programs evolution and goals; provide engineering assessment, risk/benefit analysis and clear recommendations regarding feasibility, value and potential adoption.
  • Work closely with the QA/QC team to review findings, address technical discrepancies, and implement recommendations for program improvement.
  • Perform other related engineering tasks and assignments as required to support the broader Energy Efficiency team.
  • Provide guidance to engineering staff augmentees, including answering questions, supporting their professional development, and assisting with administrative and coordination tasks.
  • Lead the development of new engineering processes and continuous improvements to existing workflows to increase operational efficiency, improve quality, and enhance overall customer experience.
QualificationsRequired Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree Engineering (Mechanical, Civil, Environmental, Industrial, Sustainability, or related) and Minimum 5 years' work experience Engineering or energy efficiency focused
Preferred Education/Experience
  • Master's Degree Engineering (Mechanical, Civil, Environmental, Industrial, Sustainability, or related) and Minimum 3 years work experience Engineering or energy efficiency focused
Relevant Work Experience
  • Familiarity with NYS Technical Resource Manual (TRM) and energy codes (ASHRAE, IECC), required.
  • Proficiency in energy modeling, bin analysis, and complex calculations, required.
  • Strong technical knowledge of building envelope and building systems (HVAC (chillers, boilers, heat pumps, AHUs), motors/VFDs, and Building Management Systems (BMS)), required.
  • Experience with technical reviews and energy analyses of projects, required.
  • Experience with project management, including coordinating scope, schedule, and deliverables across multiple stakeholders, required.
  • Experience with complex energy modeling simulation software, such as eQUEST, DOE 2 (DOE 2.1E and DOE 2.2), Trane TRACE 3D Plus, OpenStudio, TREAT, NEO, IES VE, and Carrier HAP, preferred.
