Position:         Claremont Fiber Equipment Reliability Manager

Reports To:  Claremont Facilities and Reliability Manager

Summary of Position

The Equipment Reliability Manager is responsible for proactive identification, management, and improvement of equipment/asset lifecycles through the use of data-driven analysis of machine operation and associated failure modes.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervises the activities of Process Control Technicians to drive equipment reliability and process improvements.
  • Responsible for interviewing, hiring, disciplining, and discharging personnel in accordance with company policies. Responsible for professionally developing subordinates.
  • Provide technical support and leadership in the area of equipment reliability improvement.
  • Lead equipment reliability excellence initiatives.
  • Generate and deploy equipment reliability projects to improve overall equipment uptime and effectiveness.
  • Track production losses and abnormally high maintenance costs to prioritize and eliminate frequently failing assets.
  • Participate in the Management of Change process as it relates to design, specification, and commissioning of new and/or modified equipment to ensure it is maintainable and reliable from day one.
  • Lead investigations into equipment failures to identify underlying causes and implement permanent solutions to prevent recurrence.
  • Work closely with Maintenance teams to develop and refine Preventive (PM) and Predictive (PdM) maintenance strategies using predictive tools like vibration analysis, thermography, ultrasonic, and oil analysis.
  • Work will technical and operations staff to identify and mitigate recurring equipment breakdown issues through analysis and development of strategies to prevent failure.
    • Maximize production equipment effectiveness, including:
    • Safety for employees operating equipment.
    • Maximizing equipment availability and uptime.
    • Readiness to support strategic business growth.
  • Collaborate regularly with Automation, Engineering, Operations and Maintenance personnel to resolve both short and long term issues.
    • Identify, implement, and/or support continuous improvement (CI) projects/efforts throughout the facility.

  • Excellent skills in coordinating efforts of diverse personnel
  • Education/Certification Requirements
  • Bachelors degree in Engineering (BSME, BSEE, or related field preferred).
  • At least five (5) years of manufacturing/engineering/maintenance experience
  • Lean/Six Sigma certification preferred.
  • Strong data analysis skills and knowledge of statistical tools
  • Excellent communication skills, with demonstrated collaborative interpersonal interactions
  • Exhibits energy and positive attitude to facilitate change (ie. Change Agent)
  • Well organized and disciplined in prioritization of responsibilities
  • Knowledge and consistent use of Lean tools (ie. 6S, Kaizen, Operational Excellence, etc…)
  • Strong mechanical/electrical aptitude and excellent problem-solving skills and tools utilization (ie. RCA, FMEA, 5-Why, etc…)
  • Demonstrate self-assured decision making and critical thinking in a complex and quick changing environment.
  • Ability to provide critical feedback, translating complex topics into simplified steps with a focus on facilitation and presentation

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Prolonged standing on the production floor
  • Bending and stooping required

Work Environment

This is a fast-paced work environment with consistent pressure to complete duties as outlined above which requires ability to manage multiple projects at a detailed level and provide support to many internal departments in a fast-changing environment.  Many duties listed above are time-sensitive and have strict deadlines for completion. 

  • Performs jobs under varying conditions (Dust, oil, grease, hot and humid temperatures, fumes, noise, etc.)
  • Wears proper PPE in the manufacturing area (Shoes, safety glasses, and hearing protection as required)
  • Required to enter walled containment areas and access roofs on an infrequent but as needed basis which will at times require working in areas that are uncomfortably hot or cold
