This position will be located at our Office in Stevens Point, WI in a hybrid work model and is not a fully remote opportunity.
What You'll Do
As a Claims Representative for the Total Loss team, you will:
- Evaluate claims of basic to moderate complexity requiring expertise in private passenger auto, commercial auto, tractor trailers, heavy equipment, watercrafts, trailers, motorcycles, and other land-based off road or specialty vehicles.
- Compile and reviews pertinent information including but not limited to, repair estimates, unrelated prior damage estimates, photos, vehicle conditioning, and actual value to make accurate repair/total loss decisions that adheres to state specific thresholds.
- Conduct and reviews valuations through company approved vendors and conducts further research as necessary to determine appropriate cash value for various auto and specialist vehicles. Adheres to state specific compliance including completion and submission of required forms, taxes, and fees.
- Negotiate basic to moderately complex settlements with claimants and/or attorneys that fall within prescribed authority limits. Explains procedures and denials to claimants where coverage does not exist. Refers payment or denial of claims that exceed assigned authorization limits to management with settlement recommendations.
- Coordinate rental vehicles for claimants as necessary and handles any claim expenses including but not limited to, advance changes, salvage, rental and outside vendor expenses, ensuring services are properly covered for claimants while controlling expenses.
- Document all decisions, correspondence, reports and discussions that occur during the claim handling process and investigation.
Additionally, you will:
- Detect potential issues/concerns and works with the claim owner, subrogation, or SIU on claims requiring additional review, investigation, or research to protect the company’s right of recovery.
- Maintains appropriate claim and expense reserves. Coordinates loss and expense payments to claimants and lienholders.
- Coordinates transfer of claim file to salvage to obtain refunds on salvage parts ensuring the maximum recovery.
- May work closely with repair facility, dealers and/or others to facilitate replacement or repair work.
- Notify Underwriting of any adverse findings on a particular risk.
- Obtain and maintains state adjuster and appraiser licensing as required.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned from time to time.
What it Takes:
- Knowledge of insurance policies and coverages, claim payment procedures, and familiarity with vehicle terminology preferred.
- Previous insurance experience and/or coursework beneficial. Possess analytical abilities to review, exercise judgment, and evaluate claims to make sound decisions.
- Able to review and interpret documents such as contracts, vehicle purchase agreements and insurance regulations.
- Effective oral and written communication skills and human relations skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Possess creativity, empathy, negotiation, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work at a fast pace, multi-task within various claim and computer systems, and make independent decisions. Ability to meet the travel requirements of the job to include business related assignments, with limited notice, as business needs arise. Travel may include driving, flying or any other necessary form of transportation.
