This role will be filled following our hybrid work model at our Davenport, IA office.
What You'll Do
As a Claims Rep I - Subrogation Adjuster, you will:
- Participates in claims educational courses to learn about claim subrogation file handling.
- May obtain recorded statements, obtaining pertinent information i.e., police and medical reports, appraisals, estimates and scene photographs to support recovery efforts.
- Gains experience in determining minimal to moderate liability exposure.
- Evaluates minor to sometimes moderate recovery claims and payments made in order to establish a clear and concise disposition plan to recovery dollars.
- Documents all decisions, correspondence, reports and discussions that occur during the evaluation and investigation of the file.
- Recovers, settles and may pay claims having minor exposures within assigned authority limits.
- Negotiates liability and damages with third party carriers.
- Responds to arbitration filings on claims involving disputed damages and liability.
Additionally, you will:
- Obtains and maintains state adjuster licenses as required and adheres to state specific compliance issues for assigned jurisdictions regarding recovery efforts/guidelines.
- Learns about detecting potential problems or trends that require additional review, investigation or research.
- Receives recovery claim assignments from manager and directly from established workflow and systems.
- Confers with higher level technical claim personnel for guidance and direction to ensure the file is handled properly.
- Learns the necessary steps to determine if subrogation exists and takes steps necessary for recovering all potential dollars.
- Monitors claim files during initial and residual periods to ensure file currency.
- Refers claims that exceed assigned authorization limits to higher levels.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned from time to time.
What it Takes:
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience.
- Prior claims and/or collections work experience is beneficial.
- Previous insurance experience and/or coursework beneficial.
- Possess analytical abilities to review, exercise judgment, and evaluate recovery claims to make sound decisions.
- Effective oral and written communication skills and human relations skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Personal computer and math skills beneficial.
- Ability to meet the travel requirements of the job to include business related assignments, with limited notice, as business needs arise. Travel may include driving, flying or any other necessary form of transportation.
