Job Description

This is the job

We’re looking for a Claims Negotiator to join our Corporate Claims team in Basingstoke and take ownership of a varied caseload from initial notification right through to resolution.

Predominantly handling non-motor claims made against the AA, you’ll get to the heart of each case – investigating what happened, reviewing evidence, assessing liability and quantum, and negotiating fair and timely settlements.

This is a role where your judgement really matters. You’ll have the autonomy to make evidence based decisions, manage your own caseload and see each claim through to the best possible outcome.

If you have insurance claims handling experience, enjoy investigating the detail and are confident making decisions and negotiating outcomes, we’d love to hear from you.

What will I be doing?

You'll manage your own caseload and ensure claims are handled fairly, professionally and efficiently. Day to day, you'll:

• Manage claims from initial notification through to resolution
• Investigate claims and gather and evaluate relevant information and evidence
• Assess liability and make reasoned decisions based on the evidence available
• Assess property damage and other financial losses
• Negotiate fair and timely settlements where liability is accepted
• Clearly explain decisions where liability is disputed
• Maintain accurate claim records and realistic financial reserves
• Work with claimants, internal teams and relevant third parties throughout the claims process
• Identify cases requiring specialist input and liaise with experts such as engineers, loss adjusters, medical experts or solicitors where appropriate
• Identify recurring issues and share opportunities to improve claims processes and reduce future losses

What do I need?

We're looking for someone who is confident taking ownership of claims and making balanced, evidence led decisions. Ideally, you'll have:

• At least 2 years relevant insurance claims handling experience
• Experience investigating claims, gathering evidence and reaching reasoned decisions
• A working knowledge of legal liability principles and how they apply to claims
• Experience assessing liability and quantum and negotiating claims through to settlement
• An understanding of claims reserving and accurate financial management
• Experience using claims management systems and maintaining accurate records
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Good analytical and problem-solving skills
• Confidence communicating difficult or unfavourable decisions professionally and sensitively
• Strong organisation skills and the ability to manage competing priorities and your own caseload

You'll be naturally curious, fair and objective, with the confidence to challenge information, establish the facts and stand behind reasoned decisions. You'll also be able to remain calm and professional when dealing with challenging or sensitive situations.
