Sompo International is seeking a Claims Governance & Quality Asurance Specialist to join our Continental Europe Claims team.
As part of our expanding organisation, this role reports to the Head of Claims, Continental Europe, and plays a key part in strengthening our governance framework, enhancing claims quality, and supporting the profitable growth strategy of Sompo International in the region. The position spans multiple countries and requires close collaboration with local claims teams, Compliance, Finance, ERM & Operational Risk, and senior management.
The role also acts as a key interface with Internal Audit, which oversees the J‑SOX framework as well as with the ERM & Operational Risk team, which manages RCSAs, incident/event reporting, and thematic reviews of material operational risk areas.

What you’ll be doing:
1. Quality Assurance
- Conduct independent QA reviews of claim files across lines of business and jurisdictions.
- Identify trends, control gaps, and improvement opportunities for our claims handling.
- Provide structured feedback to claims teams and support remediation plans.
- Maintain and enhance QA frameworks, scoring methodologies, and reporting tools.
- Monitor claims leakage indicators and support initiatives to reduce leakage.
2. Claims Governance & Risk Controls
- Coordinate and monitor J‑SOX controls related to claims processes.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements across the Continental Europe region.
- Support fraud detection and prevention activities, including case triage, escalation, and follow‑up.
- Ensure compliance with sanctions screening requirements and related controls.
- Support Compliance in managing claims‑related complaints, including tracking, root‑cause analysis, and reporting.
- Maintain governance documentation and act as primary contact for Internal Audit on J‑SOX testing and audit reviews.
- Ensure timely delivery of control evidence, audit responses, and remediation actions.
3. Reporting & Data Analytics
- Produce regular and ad‑hoc claims KPI dashboards and management reports.
- Analyse trends in claims performance, leakage, cycle times, QA outcomes, and operational risk events.
- Translate claims data into actionable insights for senior management and cross‑functional stakeholders.
- Support regulatory reporting and internal governance reporting requirements.
4. Guidelines, Processes & Best Practices
- Draft, update, and improve claims guidelines, procedures, and best‑practice documents.
- Ensure alignment with regulatory requirements, internal standards, and market practices.
- Support training, communication, and change‑management efforts to embed new processes across countries.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the Claims function.
What you’ll bring:
Experience
- 10+ years of experience in insurance claims, claims governance, quality assurance, operational risk, internal audit, or a related function within a corporate insurance or reinsurance environment.
- Experience working in a multinational or multi‑jurisdictional claims environment is strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with J‑SOX, internal controls frameworks, or audit processes is a strong advantage.
- Experience with data analytics, KPI reporting, or claims performance monitoring is desirable.
- Exposure to P&C commercial lines (Property, Casualty, Specialty) is a plus.

- Strong analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data and identify trends.
- Excellent communication skills, able to provide constructive feedback and influence stakeholders.
- High attention to detail and strong organisational skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across teams and countries.
- Strong problem‑solving skills and a continuous‑improvement mindset.
- Proficiency in Excel, Power BI, or other data‑visualisation tools is an asset.
Education & Qualifications
- University degree in Law, Insurance, Risk Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
Languages
- Fluent English is required.
- Fluency in at least one additional European language (French, Spanish, Italian, or German) is strongly preferred.
