The Claims Examiner will adjust and manage all commercial surety claims assigned, from receipt of claim or lawsuit through resolution or trial/appeal, and recovery of loss and expense.
Key Accountabilities/Deliverables:

Perform and comply with commercial surety claim handling principles regarding coverage, investigation, liability, damages, evaluation and resolution, and maintain claim files, notes, documents, and diary which comply with both internal and external requirements in support of these claim handling activities.

Timely and effective communications with principal and indemnitor(s) in ongoing efforts to avoid or mitigate loss.

Timely preparation of internal reports for file documentation and early identification of potential significant reserve increases for presentation to management.

Timely establishment of reserves pursuant to reserve authority procedures.

Adhere to the company’s Panel Counsel Program and Litigation Guidelines.

Control and manage ALAE by competently selecting, instructing and managing legal counsel and 3rd party vendors, as appropriate, including TPAs.

Provide claims underwriting support to underwriter(s) as requested.

Attend mediation, settlement conferences, and trials when required.

Comply with Team and Individual Service Levels and Key Performance Indicator (“KPI”) metrics set by Claims Operations Manager.

Proactively expanding and maintaining awareness of market claim trends, and timely presentation of those trends to management.

In addition to the above key responsibilities, you may be required to undertake other duties from time to time as the Company may reasonably require.
Technical Knowledge and Understanding:
-
Possess a comprehensive understanding and knowledge of state and federal laws (including legislation) applicable to commercial surety claims.

Possesses an in-depth understanding of the terms and coverages for bonds written for commercial surety.

Computer skills – good working knowledge of MS Office, Excel

Previously utilized an electronic claim system

Possess strong communication and leadership skills

Ability to negotiate and be persuasive

Ability to simplify, analyze and explain complex issues

Licenses to be obtained where required by a state for the role of claims examiner/adjuster
Experience:
-
Bachelors degree required.

A minimum of 5 years’ experience in the legal or Insurance profession dealing specifically with commercial surety claims, or the technical claims analysis and resolution of liability claims.
Must also be able to travel as needed.
