Overview:

Why Tokio Marine HCC?

Standing still is not an option in the current world of insurance. Tokio Marine HCC is one of the world’s leading specialty insurers. With deep expertise in our chosen lines of business, a strong track record and a solid balance sheet, we evaluate and manage risk with confidence. Looking beyond profit, empowering our people, delivering on our commitments and developing creative solutions for clients are central to our values.

To support this ambition, we continually improve our customer-focused business and provide the systems, solutions and technology that enable sustainable growth and innovation. Our evolution depends on attracting people with a range of perspectives and backgrounds, building open and trusting relationships, and creating an environment where fresh ideas and constructive challenge are valued.

Job Purpose:

Tokio Marine HCC is seeking an experienced Claims Business Analyst to join the Claims Performance team. Working closely with Claims stakeholders, Product, Technology and Change teams, you will identify business needs, analyse processes and define solutions that support the strategic and operational development of our Claims capabilities.

You will act as the bridge between business and delivery teams, ensuring requirements are clearly understood, documented, validated, prioritised and delivered in a way that achieves the intended business outcomes. The role provides exposure to multiple Claims products, processes, systems and transformation initiatives across the wider insurance value chain. This is a product-focused role, not a project delivery role, and will operate within an Agile product environment.

Reporting to the Claims Product Manager, you will facilitate workshops, document requirements, analyse current and future-state processes, support backlog development and help ensure solutions are fit for purpose. Previous Claims experience and working knowledge of London Market Claims operations and systems are preferred, together with the ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with Claims stakeholders to understand strategic objectives, business challenges, operational needs, capabilities and processes.
  • Elicit, analyse, document and validate business and functional requirements using appropriate business analysis techniques.
  • Facilitate workshops, interviews and requirements-gathering sessions across Claims, Operations, Product, Technology and Change teams.
  • Translate business needs into clear epics, features, user stories, use cases, functional and non-functional requirements, acceptance criteria and process documentation.
  • Work with Product Managers, Product Owner, Engineering Delivery Lead developers, data teams and Quality Assurance teams to ensure requirements are understood and delivered as intended.
  • Create and maintain business analysis artefacts, including business requirements documents, process maps, data models, user journeys, use cases and requirements traceability matrices.
  • Support the Claims Product Owner with backlog refinement and prioritisation, ensuring items are sufficiently defined and ready for delivery.
  • Define and validate acceptance criteria, ensuring alignment with agreed business outcomes, control requirements and stakeholder expectations.
  • Support User Acceptance Testing planning and execution, including test scenario development, defect triage, issue clarification and resolution.
  • Maintain requirements traceability and support change control throughout the product or project lifecycle, from initial requirement through deployment and post-release validation.
  • Conduct impact assessments, root-cause analysis and gap analysis to support business and technology change initiatives.
  • Provide analysis and insight to support prioritisation decisions, including business value, risks, assumptions, issues, dependencies and implementation impacts.
  • Assess and help optimise Claims processes to improve operational efficiency, colleague experience, customer outcomes, data quality and control effectiveness.
  • Contribute effectively in Agile and Waterfall environments, participating in relevant ceremonies, governance forums and delivery activities.
  • Create clear, concise and high-quality deliverables and support knowledge transfer and continuous improvement across the Claims Performance team.

Skills and Experience Specification:

Essential:

  • Demonstrable experience as a Business Analyst, preferably within the insurance industry or another regulated environment.
  • Experience eliciting, analysing, documenting and validating business and functional requirements.
  • Experience producing business requirements documents, epics, features, user stories, use cases and clear acceptance criteria.
  • Experience facilitating requirements workshops and stakeholder interviews, including constructively challenging assumptions and resolving ambiguity.
  • Strong process-mapping skills using recognised modelling techniques and the ability to document processes at appropriate levels of detail.
  • Experience creating and maintaining requirements traceability and supporting backlog refinement.
  • Experience supporting User Acceptance Testing and working with business and testing teams throughout the delivery lifecycle.
  • Experience working within Agile and Waterfall delivery methodologies.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
  • Understanding of the regulatory, compliance and control environment in which an insurance company operates.
  • Strong stakeholder management, written communication and influencing skills, including the ability to explain business and technical concepts clearly.
  • Understanding of insurance business processes, organisational structures and capability models.
  • Proficiency in Excel for analysis, validation and requirements support, and experience working with delivery tools such as Azure DevOps or equivalent.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience of Claims processes, Claims operations and the end-to-end policy and claims journey.
  • Working knowledge of London Market Claims systems and platforms, such as ECF2, Guidewire ClaimCenter, Sequel Claims or Genius.
  • Experience working closely with Product Owners or Product Managers in a product-led environment.
  • Exposure to Claims transformation or wider business change programmes.
  • Experience of Target Operating Model design, business capability modelling or process taxonomy development.
  • Experience producing entity relationship diagrams or supporting data analysis, reporting and Power BI requirements.
  • Experience collaborating with data engineering teams or working with cloud-based data platforms.
  • Experience applying strategic analysis techniques where relevant to business change.
  • Professional Business Analysis qualification from BCS, IIBA or an equivalent body.
  • London Market qualifications such as LM1, LM2 or LM3.
