Senior Engineering Manager - Audio Technology Licensing – China
Reports To: Sr Director, Audio Technology Engineering (Global)
Function: Audio Technology Licensing Engineering

Role Summary

Bose is seeking a China-based Engineering Director / Senior Engineering Manager to lead local engineering execution and team development for our Audio Technology Licensing business. This role is responsible for establishing and growing Bose’s engineering presence in China, supporting customer-facing delivery, and acting as a senior technical representative of Bose in engagements with strategic partners.

This position requires a leader with strong technical breadth in audio systems, proven people leadership experience, and the ability to manage complex, customer-driven engineering programs. The role combines local organizational ownership, cross-functional leadership, and direct customer engagement, working closely with global engineering leadership and China-based business development teams.

Key Responsibilities

Local Organization Leadership (China)

• Serve as the primary engineering leader for Audio Technology Licensing in China, with accountability for local team performance, growth, and execution.
• Lead and develop a multidisciplinary engineering organization, initially focused on Acoustic Engineering, with planned expansion to include Program Management, and potentially DSP and Embedded Software functions as the organization grows.
• Recruit, develop, and retain high-performing engineering and program management talent aligned with Bose technical standards and culture.

Customer-Facing Engineering Execution

• Oversee technical execution and delivery of customer-facing licensing projects for China-based partners.
• Ensure delivery quality, schedule adherence, and effective communication throughout the customer engagement lifecycle.
• Act as a senior escalation point for technical and delivery issues, driving timely resolution.

Program Management & Delivery Capability

• Establish and grow local Program Management capability to support early customer engagements and scaled delivery execution.
• Ensure clear project ownership, execution discipline, and coordination between local teams and global delivery processes.
• Partner with global Engineering Operations to align local execution with enterprise delivery standards while enabling regional flexibility.

Partner Engagement & Technical Leadership

• Represent Bose as a trusted technical leader in customer-facing discussions, including early technical scoping, feasibility assessment, and solution definition.
• Lead or support technical discussions involving audio systems architecture, acoustics, DSP concepts, embedded software considerations, and system-level tradeoffs.
• Help shape partner engagements that align with Bose’s Audio Technology roadmap and long-term licensing strategy.

Global Collaboration & Alignment

• Work closely with US-based leaders in Engineering Operations, Acoustic Engineering, and Audio Technology leadership to ensure alignment on priorities, staffing plans, and delivery models.
• Collaborate with China-based Business Development teams to support opportunity evaluation, customer relationships, and engagement planning.
• Act as a strong bridge between China-based execution teams and global strategy.

Required Qualifications

Leadership & Experience

• 12–18+ years of relevant industry experience in audio systems, embedded software, or related technology domains.
• 5+ years of people management experience, including leadership of senior engineers and/or cross-functional teams.
• Demonstrated experience leading customer-facing engineering organizations in China.

Technical Background

• Broad understanding of audio systems, including acoustics, DSP fundamentals, and embedded software architectures.
• Ability to guide and challenge technical teams across multiple disciplines, even if not hands-on in all areas.
• Experience in consumer audio products strongly preferred.
• Experience with software-centric or IP-based technology licensing is a strong plus.

Professional Capabilities

• Strong customer-facing communication skills with the ability to lead technical discussions with external partners.
• Solid understanding of engineering project execution, including planning, risk management, and delivery tradeoffs.
• Comfortable operating in fast-moving, evolving organizations with both local autonomy and global alignment.
