About Us:
Here at Ambience, we never set out to be just another scribe. We’re building the AI intelligence platform that restores humanity to healthcare and drives meaningful ROI for health systems across the country.
Our technology helps providers focus on delivering great care by removing the administrative burden that pulls them away from patients and away from their most impactful work. Ambience delivers real-time coding-aware documentation and clinical workflow support across ambulatory, emergency and inpatient settings at the top health systems in North America.
Our teams operate relentlessly with extreme ownership to build the best solutions for our health system partners. We value candor, positivity and deep thought — and we expect a lot from each other because we know the problems we’re solving truly matter.
Ambience was ranked #1 for Improving the Clinician Experience in the KLAS Research Emerging Solutions Top 20 Report, recognized by Fast Company as one of the Next Big Things in Tech, named one of the best AI companies in healthcare by Inc., and selected as a LinkedIn Top Startup in 2024 and 2025. We’re backed by Oak HC/FT, Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), OpenAI Startup Fund, and Kleiner Perkins — and we’re just getting started.
About the Office of the PresidentThe Office of the President (OOTP) is a small, high-trust team that operates across Ambience's most consequential strategic frontiers – partnerships, ecosystem navigation, adjacent markets, and thought leadership. This office is not a functional team and not an additional management layer. It is a problem-solving nucleus built to help the President see the future more clearly, architect the best possible version of Ambience, and move the company decisively toward it. The Chief of Staff is the core operating partner within that office. The team also drives select internal initiatives, including building AI-native operating systems for knowledge management and organizational learning.
The healthcare AI landscape is evolving rapidly, and the decisions being made now will shape the industry for years to come. Good decision-making requires timely, accurate information – which requires building the right learning networks and ecosystems. That is the OOTP's mandate.
The RoleYou will be the quarterback of the Office of the President, reporting directly to Mike Ng, President and Co-Founder of Ambience. You will manage approximately four other OOTP members and partner with the recruiting team to hire and onboard them.
This is a high-proximity, high-trust role. You will be in meetings with Mike ~20 hours per week – shadowing, learning, absorbing context, and quickly becoming an extension of how he thinks and operates. Over time, you will be his proxy in internal and external meetings he cannot attend, his sounding board on the company's most consequential decisions, and the person who ensures nothing falls through the cracks across the OOTP's portfolio.
Mike operates in deep alignment with the philosophy outlined in The Great CEO Within by Matt Mochary – a playbook for founder-operators that emphasizes radical prioritization, impeccable agreements, and building leaders who own outcomes rather than just tasks.
Problems you will solve in the first 6–12 months:Quarterbacking the OOTP as an operating unit. You'll hold hyper-context across every active workstream – partnerships, competitive intelligence, new market analyses, ad hoc deal support, thought leadership – and make sure the right people are working on the right problems at the right time. You'll know when to push, when to steer, and when to escalate. You'll set and manage OKRs for the team and drive accountability for follow-through.
Building and managing the team. The OOTP is still forming. You'll partner with the recruiting team to help identify and hire the remaining members – special projects operators, strategic finance support – and then coach, develop, and manage them. This means checking in when someone's stuck, helping them break problems down to first principles, and teaching them frameworks so they can solve the next problem independently. You are not a project manager who delegates and checks boxes. You're a player-coach who can roll up their sleeves and help someone get unstuck when the details get hard.
Driving high-stakes partnership initiatives. Ambience is actively building critical external partnerships with ecosystem players – including strategic technology partners, health systems, and adjacent platforms. You'll help craft compelling joint value narratives, coordinate across internal and external stakeholders, and support the analytical work (financial modeling, market sizing, deal structuring) that underpins these relationships. When a 72-hour contract negotiation sprint happens, you'll be in the room.
Supporting internal AI-first initiatives. You'll help build and scale Ambience's company-wide AI shared knowledge management system – making sure that institutional knowledge is captured, searchable, and continuously improving. This includes helping the OOTP itself operate as an exemplar AI-first team: using AI to do research, generate first drafts, prep for meetings, track decisions, and scale what one person can accomplish.
Serving as Mike's right hand. You will collect insights from across the company, see around corners, and bring Mike information he wouldn't otherwise have. You'll draft and refine memos, prep materials for board meetings and keynotes, and manage the flow of decisions so Mike's time and energy are spent on the highest-leverage problems. You'll partner closely with Mike's Executive Assistant to ensure his calendar reflects actual priorities.
What This Role Is NotWe believe in transparency and clarity early on to save everyone time.
This is not a strategy advisory role. You won't be giving advice from a distance and moving on. You will own outcomes – drive things to completion, solve problems when people get stuck, and be accountable for results.
This is not owning the product roadmap. Ambience has a Head of Product and a strong product organization. The OOTP works on the problems that fall outside existing team boundaries – partnerships, new markets, competitive intelligence, cross-functional initiatives – not on what the product team ships.
This is not building your own independent organization. You lead the OOTP, but the team exists to extend Mike's leverage and to solve the company's highest-priority problems. The orientation is toward the mission and toward Mike's effectiveness, not toward building a standalone empire.
What We're Looking ForThe archetype: You take hard, ambiguous problems all the way through to resolution without needing to be managed through each step. When you hit a barrier, you find a way past it – over, around, through, or by reframing the problem entirely. When someone on your team hits a barrier, you help them find a way past it too. You've done this in environments where the stakes were high and nobody handed you a playbook.
Experience & background:
5–10+ years of professional experience with a meaningful operating track record. Consulting and/or banking backgrounds can be a great foundation, but you must have demonstrated evidence of driving results in operating environments – not just advising on them.
People management experience. You will be managing and developing a team from the start. You've managed before and you have a clear point of view on how to develop high-performers.
Comfort with financial modeling and quantitative analysis. You don't need to be a career banker, but you should be able to build a financial model, structure a deal, and think clearly about unit economics and margin.
Strong written communication. Ambience has a deep memo culture. Writing is thinking. Until an idea is crisply written, it hasn't been fully thought through. Your memos, pre-briefs, and decision documents should be clear, precise, and organized.
Strongly preferred domain expertise in one or more of the following:
Foundation models / hyperscalers (e.g., understanding the competitive dynamics, partnership structures, and go-to-market strategies of major AI infrastructure providers)
Health systems (e.g., how large health systems buy, implement, and adopt technology; navigating the clinical, operational, and financial stakeholders)
Adjacent healthcare markets such as revenue cycle management, payers, or life sciences (e.g., familiarity with the players, economics, and technology ecosystems in one or more of these spaces)
The intangibles:
Mutual fit matters deeply here. This is a true partnership – you'll spend more time working together than with almost anyone else at the company. As you and Mike get to know each other through the interview process, we hope you'll build conviction on fit, trust, and whether this is a partnership where both sides learn from and elevate each other. That signal matters as much to us as any credential on your resume.
High internal locus of control. You believe that outcomes are within your influence. You take extreme ownership – when something goes wrong, you ask what you could have done differently before looking outward.
You think about AI in terms of compounding systems, not just efficiency gains. Using AI to draft an email faster is table stakes. We care about whether you build systems that get smarter over time – where each use makes the next one better. We'll ask you how you've used AI in the last six months, and we want to see what you've built.
Slope over y-intercept. We value your growth rate more than your starting point. Every six months, you should be able to look back and point to something meaningful you couldn't have done six months prior.
The base compensation for this role is approximately $185,000–$295,000 per year, excluding equity or bonus targets. We intentionally offer a wide range to support flexibility around cash and equity. We believe strongly in equity ownership and want team members to share meaningfully in the impact they create.
If you’re outside this range, we still encourage you to apply – we take an individualized approach to compensation that considers the full picture.
