Airwallex is the AI-native financial operating system for a real-time, intelligent economy. More than 675,000 businesses, including McLaren Racing, Qantas, SHEIN, and TikTok, use us, directly or through our platform partners, to run their financial operations or build and monetize financial products of their own.
We started in Melbourne in 2015 to build the infrastructure global commerce runs on. We're the regulated backbone behind global payments: not by accident, but by design. A decade plus, 85+ licenses, and a financial infrastructure spanning North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific.
We're co-headquartered in San Francisco and Singapore, with more than 2,700 people across 27 offices. We hire builders with founder-level energy, people who move fast with good judgment, dig in with real curiosity, and make calls from first principles rather than waiting to be told what to do. Read our operating principles to see it in full.
About the team:
Finance & Corporate Development helps Airwallex grow with control. We’re a trusted partner to the business, providing actionable insights on performance, supporting market and product expansion and helping to shape the future of our product. We ensure that Airwallex meets its financial reporting, tax and safeguarding obligations globally. We work with existing and prospective investors to raise capital and ensure it is deployed effectively.
This is a team for people who want to reimagine how the office of the CFO works. We’re looking for founder-like energy, high integrity and a passion for technology. You’ll thrive here if you enjoy working cross-functionally, think from first principles and can balance speed of execution with analytical precision.
What you’ll do:
As Chief of Staff to our Group CFO, you’ll be the CFO’s right hand across three divisions: Finance & Corporate Development, People & Talent, and global Operations. You will run the operating rhythm that keeps those teams aligned, own the CFO’s most important projects from first framing to delivery, and help build a CFO-led programme that brings Airwallex closer to the finance leaders we serve.
You’ll work directly with the CFO, the CEO, the executive team and our investors.
This role is based in our London office.
Responsibilities:
Run the CFO’s operating cadences: Ensure the smooth running of the Finance, People & Talent and Operations divisions, driving divisional OKRs, business reviews, leadership team meetings and offsites.
Own strategic projects end to end: lead the CFO’s highest-priority cross-divisional projects, from problem definition to delivered outcome. Examples could include org changes, M&A integration, process redefinition and analytical work.
Shape executive and Board communication: Support the CFO in the creation of internal and external-facing materials, including Board, Exec and Investor materials.
Build the CFO go-to-market programme: partner with GTM to run CFO-hosted events, roundtables and a community for finance leaders, and track the commercial impact.
Who you are:
Minimum qualifications:
Proven experience, with a foundation in top-tier strategy consulting, private equity or investment banking and preferably some in-house experience in a fast-growth environment
Strong financial acumen: you build models, read a P&L and balance sheet fluently, and frame decisions in unit economics and return on investment.
A track record of leading complex, cross-functional programmes to completion
Preferred qualifications:
Prior experience as Chief of Staff to a C-Suite executive
Experience in payments, cross-border or another regulated financial services business.
Experience with M&A/corporate finance (including fundraising)
Experience building executive events or communities.
An entrepreneurial streak: you’ve founded a business or side project.
You’ll thrive here if:
You can connect the dots across teams and functions
You keep asking why until you feel like you really understand something
You don’t wait for permission to fix things that you know are broken
You are willing to be disagreeable when you need to be
You can build consensus to get things done
