The Opportunity
The Chief Risk
Officer (CRO) directs the enterprise-wide risk management framework,
safeguarding the bank’s financial stability by identifying, measuring, and
mitigating credit, market, operational, and regulatory risks, acting as the
strategic advisor to the Board of Directors. The CRO builds the Bank's
resilience while ensuring compliance with regulations and creates a culture
where everyone understands and manages risks appropriately.
The position reports to the Managing Director JN Bank.

THE
ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Create, implement
and enforce the enterprise risk management programme for JN Bank that
ensures that the risk and control framework of the Bank are consistent
with relevant laws, regulations, risk appetite, best practices and world
class standards thereby fostering a culture of risk management.
· Responsible for oversight, assessment, mitigation monitoring and
reporting on the Banks Risk Management Programme.
· Identify potential areas of risk, vulnerability and assess the severity
of the potential risk.
· Ensure strict adherence to global and local banking regulations (e.g.,
Basel frameworks), managing relationships with regulatory authorities.
· Update the Bank’s Risk Registry as required and submit for approval to
the Board Committee responsible.
· Promote the implementation of best practice and world class standards in
risk management.
· Ensure accurate and timely reporting of risk breaches violations to the
Managing Director and as warranted, to the appropriate regulatory authority.
· Prepare real-time risk dashboards and crisis management plans for
Executive Management, Shareholders, and the Board Risk Committee.
· Commission risk assessments of high-risk areas, customers, products and
or geographic locations to minimize risk exposure.
· Follow up on internal and external audit issues relating to risk and
coordinate with the affected department to ensure appropriate action is taken
and all audit recommendations actioned. Ensure the resolution of internal audit
points relevant to risk.
· Promote and drive the delivery of risk procedures in JN Bank.
· Work with relevant stakeholders to develop and deliver effective risk
programmes including introductory training for new employees as well as ongoing
training for existing employees and all directors.
· Manage and update the Risk Departments Policies and Procedures Manual
including obtaining necessary approvals for changes thereto.
· Implement day-to-day monitoring and testing of the Bank’s operational
functions with regulatory requirements and internal policies.
· Act and as independent reviewer and evaluation body to ensure that risk
issues are appropriately evaluated, investigated and resolved.
· Advise the C-suite on risk-adjusted pricing, potential acquisitions, and
new financial products.
· Assist with the establishment of credit limits, assess borrower risk, and
monitor the loan portfolio for potential defaults or economic downturns.
· Serve on the Bank’s ALCO, Credit Committee, IT Security Committee and New
Product Committee to ensure that regulatory requirements are adhered to and in
compliance with internal policies.
· Oversee the second line of defense by setting risk appetite, tolerance
parameters, and robust risk management strategies.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: Advanced degree (Master's or MBA) in Finance, Economics,
Accounting, Statistics or a related quantitative field.
- Certifications: Professional designations such as FRM (Financial Risk Manager), CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst), or CRM (Certified Risk Manager) are typically preferred.
- Experience: 7 -10 years of senior-level risk management
experience within the banking or financial services sector.
- Expertise:
o Deep understanding of quantitative risk modeling, stress testing, and
local regulatory law.
o Sound knowledge of auditing and accounting practices and techniques.
o Awareness of central banks or financial regulatory agencies risk
assessment requirements.
o Track record of stakeholder engagement through Board-level reporting and
regulatory liaison activities.
o A comprehensive knowledge of global risk management standards and
financial industry regulatory rules.
o A strong understanding of the industry landscape, including current
trends and regulatory frameworks with the ability to align risk management
strategies with business objectives.
o Ability to connect risk appetite with organizational strategy, ensuring
that risk management frameworks support the overall goals of the business.
