General Summary:

As a key member of the Global Underwriting Philosophy Design Team, you will report to the Associate Director, Global Underwriting Philosophy Design and work alongside other members of the team in the ongoing development of RGA’s Global Underwriting Manual Philosophy. The role involves combining analytical thinking and advanced research skills to transform complex underwriting, medical, regulatory and actuarial data into clear, structured and actionable underwriting guidelines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop and publish high quality research-based guidelines for medical and non-medical risks.

  • Collaborate closely with regional and local teams, including medical directors, and data scientists (R&D) to develop global underwriting guidelines.

  • Develop client communication materials to highlight RGA's global underwriting philosophy.

  • Develop robust professional relationships with RGAs Global medical directors, data scientists, and local office stakeholders, both within underwriting and across other functions.

  • Keep abreast of the latest developments, innovations, and trends within the industry.

  • Contribute to a positive working environment with teamwork and a spirit of innovation.

  • Support the Associate Director, Global Underwriting Philosophy Design in various initiatives as required.

  • Involvement with various other training & development, research, and underwriting related projects as required.

  • Performs backup support and other duties as assigned.

  • Participate in RGA events and industry activities

Education and Experience:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work-related experience (minimum 8 years).

  • 7+ years of life and living benefits underwriting experience (Critical Illness and disability income experience is a necessity) in a reinsurance environment, or 10 years in a direct office.

  • Good technical knowledge of underwriting systems.

Preferred:

  • ACS, ALU, FLMI, FALU or CLU accreditation, or progress towards accreditation.

  • Over 10 year’s reinsurance underwriting experience.

  • Data analytics experience

  • Language skills are an asset.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Comprehensive understanding of insurance medical practices and current trends with the capability to effectively apply this expertise in the development of underwriting guidelines.

  • Advanced research skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication, as well as presentation skills, with an ability to express business concepts in ways that are clear and easily understood by all internal and external stakeholders.

  • Advanced ability to translate business needs and problems into viable/accepted solutions.

  • Strong ability to persuade both internal colleagues and external clients when addressing and resolving problems.

  • Ability to adapt quickly and remain effective when working under pressure or facing tight deadlines.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively and build strong relationships across a wide variety of operational, functional, and technical disciplines.

  • Advanced skills in stakeholder relationship management and change management.

  • Demonstrate proficiency in managing multiple priorities efficiently, consistently adheres to deadlines, and ensures the timely delivery of all set outcomes.

  • Attain relevant insurance qualifications and remain informed of international trends and advancements in underwriting.
