The Chief Legal Officer is the senior executive responsible for overseeing all legal, regulatory, and compliance matters of the company. In a social media and technology-driven environment, the CLO plays a critical role in managing risks, ensuring compliance with data protection and cyber laws, safeguarding intellectual property, and guiding the organization on corporate governance.
This is a hybrid role based in Ghana
Duties:
- Serve as the principal legal advisor to the CEO, Board, and executive management team.
- Provide legal guidance on corporate strategies, business models, and new initiatives.
- Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, agreements, and partnerships.
- Compliance with local and international laws governing technology, social media, cybersecurity, and digital content.
- Oversee compliance with data protection, privacy regulations, intellectual property, and employment laws.
- Monitor emerging laws, policies, and court rulings that may affect the company.
- Identify potential legal and regulatory risks and develop mitigation strategies.
- Oversee dispute resolution, litigation management, and regulatory investigations.
- Develop internal policies to minimize exposure to legal liabilities.
- Advise the board of directors on governance structures and fiduciary responsibilities.
- Ensure the company’s operations align with ethical standards and corporate governance best practices.
- Support investor relations and corporate structuring.
- Lead and manage the company’s legal team and external counsel.
- Collaborate with executives across departments (HR, Compliance, Technology, Marketing) to ensure integrated decision-making.
- Educate staff on legal policies, compliance requirements, and ethical practices.
Requirements
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) and Barrister-at-Law (B.L).
- An advanced degree (LL.M., PhD, MBA, or specialization in Technology/Corporate Law) is an advantage.
- Minimum of 5–10 years post-call experience in corporate law.
- Strong background in technology, social media, telecommunications, or digital business law.
- Proven experience handling regulatory bodies, litigation, and cross-border transactions.
- Deep knowledge of corporate, commercial, intellectual property, data privacy, and employment law.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
