PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

The Chief Financial Officer is responsible for the overall financial management of the organization, encompassing financial strategy, cash flow management, and comprehensive analysis of financial performance. The CFO ensures the Company’s financial health, sustainability, optimizes resource allocation, and supports long-term business objectives.

 

As strategic business partner to the Executive Director, the CFO plays a pivotal role in driving sustainable growth, financial resilience and commercial performance across the organisation. The role requires an action-oriented, entrepreneurial and highly agile leader who combines strategic thinking with operational execution to support the company’s evolving business needs and growth ambitions.

 

The CFO plays a pivotal role in optimizing resource allocation, cash flow management, and providing strategic financial insights to support executive decision-making.  He/she must be able to complement the pace, leadership style and vision of the Executive Director while balancing strong financial discipline with entrepreneurial ambition.

Additionally, the CFO is responsible for overseeing the company’s administrative functions, including property management, facilities oversight, and operational administration, ensuring effective systems, operational efficiency, strong governance, and alignment with organizational objectives.


KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS:

  • Strategic Leadership and Business Growth: Partner with the Executive Director in shaping and executing the organization’s strategic growth agenda. Drive business expansion initiatives through commercially sound financial strategies. Translate financial data into simple, practical and actionable frameworks to enable rapid decision-making. Identify opportunities for revenue growth, operational efficiency and sustainable profitability. Support strategic investments and evaluate new business opportunities.
  • Operational Leadership: Demonstrate operational agility by balancing strategic responsibilities with practical execution when required. Provide oversight and support on financial accounting, reporting, controls and compliance activities. Ensure efficient financial processes and systems that support business growth. Build and maintain high standards of financial governance.
  • Financial Strategy and Planning: Leads the development and execution of financial strategies, encompassing budgeting, forecasting, financial performance analysis and long-term financial planning to drive sustainable growth across all business sectors. Ensure alignment between financial strategies and the organization’s overall objectives and achieve profitability for the organization.
  • Financial Reporting and Compliance: Oversees the preparation and presentation of accurate and timely financial statements, ensuring full compliance with relevant accounting standards, corporate governance, and regulatory requirements.
  • Risk Management and Mitigation: Identifies, assesses, and manages financial risks, such as market volatility, liquidity concerns, and operational exposures. Implements robust risk management frameworks, employing strategies such as insurance, hedging, and portfolio diversification, solvency and profitability assessments of every Business Unit.
  • Capital Structure and Financing: Manages the Company’s capital structure, optimizing debt and equity financing to ensure financial flexibility and improved performance. Ensures access to appropriate funding sources and provide cost-effective financing solutions.
  • Investment Evaluation and Oversight: Directs the evaluation, management, and execution of investment opportunities, acquisitions, mergers, and divestitures. Ensures all investments align with the Company’s strategic goals and provide the desired financial returns.
  • Cost Management and Efficiency: Establishes and enforces effective cost control measures to drive operational efficiency. Continuously monitors and analyses expenditures, implementing cost-saving initiatives where necessary to enhance overall profitability.
  • Stakeholder Management: Building and maintaining sound business relationships with relevant stakeholders. Communicating financial performance and strategy to the Executive Director. Lead engagements with financial institutions, regulators and other stakeholders where applicable.
  • Strategic Financial Advisory: Act as a key advisor to the Directors and executive team, providing insights on financial performance and the implications of business decisions. Contribute to the development of overall business strategy by aligning financial objectives with long-term corporate goals.
  • Administrative Oversight: Establishing and overseeing the Company’s administrative functions, including properties, facilities, processes and systems. Ensure adherence to statutory and regulatory requirements in all administrative functions and practices to ensure administrative efficiency. Oversee audits and implementation of audit corrective actions and recommendations.
  • People Management: Ensuring an effective structure, clear staff accountabilities, and alignment of job roles with organizational needs. It includes overseeing performance management, staff development, and making recommendations on key staffing decisions in coordination with HR and the ED. The role also requires driving departmental efficiency while staying updated on industry and broader economic developments and maintaining ongoing professional development.

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field.
  • A Master’s Degree in Accounting or Finance will be an added advantage.
  • A Chartered Accountant (CA) or Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) designation is required.
  • A minimum of 10 years of relevant financial management experience, with at least 5 years senior management experience.
  • Proven experience in strategic finance, risk management, business growth and stakeholder management.
  • Experience managing capital structures, investment portfolios, and working with external stakeholders such as auditors and regulators.
  • Experience operating within entrepreneurial, fast-paced, or growth-focused environments will be highly desirable.
  • A valid Code B Driving License
  • A valid Police Code of Conduct Certificate

Skills Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field
  • Master's degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Chartered Accountant (CA) or Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) designation
  • At least 10 years of relevant financial management experience
  • At least 5 years of senior management experience
  • Proven experience in strategic finance, risk management, business growth, and stakeholder management
  • Experience managing capital structures and investment portfolios
  • Experience working with external stakeholders, including auditors and regulators
  • Experience in entrepreneurial, fast-paced, or growth-focused environments
  • Valid Code B driving license
  • Valid Police Code of Conduct Certificate
