The Role

The Oshkosh Corporation Vocational segment leverages the power of our people, brands, and strength in technology to improve the safety, cleanliness, and productivity of our communities.  The Vocational segment includes market leading brands McNeilus, Oshkosh S-Series, IMT, Pierce, MAXIMETAL, Oshkosh Airport Products, and Frontline Communications.  Our purpose-built products serve our communities with carefully designed and engineered refuse trucks, front-discharge mixer trucks, fire apparatus, Airport Rescue and Fire Fighting trucks, service vehicles, and command trucks.   Our products are designed to perform under the toughest conditions.

This role will lead and manage an Operations Engineering team and be responsible for driving continuous improvement, new product introduction, automation and efforts across an engineering discipline. This role will be responsible for making critical decisions that have a large impact on projects, new line setup  and engineering initiatives and develop and foster engineers to think innovatively, hold accountability, and process improvement on a daily basis.

Required travel for first 6 months to 1 year to Detroit, Michigan and then permanent role in Murfreesboro, TN thereafter.

YOUR IMPACT:  

These duties are not meant to be all-inclusive and other duties may be assigned.

  • Manage an engineering team consisting of engineers by planning, directing, and coordinating activities of their engineering team.
  • Provide coaching and development for their team through regular performance feedback, technical and professional training opportunities and creation of individual development plans for team members.
  • Prepare and control department budget, forecast operating costs of department, and direct preparation of budget requests. May have some level of P&L responsibility. Understand market share and P&L for their product line - business acumen.
  • Collaborate and build relationships with internal and external customers, across segments and functions.
  • Develop 5 year plan to align with organization long term goal.
  • Ability to present and defend technical engineering decisions to Engineering leadership, Oshkosh leadership, and external customers.
  • Shared Responsible for platform productivity matrix.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:   

  • Bachelor’s degree in operations, engineering, or related field.  
  • Ten (10) or more years of relevant experience.
  • Management experience, leading capital projects.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% for the first year.
  • Experience in strategic deployment will be a added advantage.

  • Complexity, Judgment and Problem Solving: Work requires the ability to plan and perform work in light of new or constantly changing problems, work from broad instruction, and deal with complex factors not easily evaluated.  Decisions require considerable judgment, initiative and ingenuity in areas there is little precedent.
  • Supervisory/Managerial: Recommends personnel actions (hiring, termination, pay changes). Involves scheduling, supervision, and evaluation of employees who perform similar work assignments.

  • Environmental Demands: Frequent: Task Changes, Tedious/Exacting Work; Occasional: Work Alone, High Volume Public Contact, Dust, Temperature Extremes, Loud Noises, Physical Danger, Toxic Substances (i.e. solvents, pesticides, etc.)
  • Work Schedule: Routine shift hours. Infrequent overtime, weekend, or shift rotation.
  • Demands/Deadlines: High volume and variable work demands and deadlines impose strain on routine basis or considerable stress intermittently; OR regular direct contacts with distressed individuals within the immediate work environment; and/or exposure to demands and pressures from persons other than immediate supervisor.

Pay Range:

$102,800.00 - $176,800.00

The above pay range reflects the minimum and maximum target pay for the position across all U.S. locations. Within this range, individual pay is determined by various factors, including the scope and responsibilities of the role, the candidate's experience, education and skills, as well as the equity of pay among team members in similar positions.
