Founded in 2019, Alethea is a tech company that detects and mitigates instances of disinformation and social media manipulation to help clients navigate the new digital reality. We protect clients from the threat of disinformation that targets brands, reputations, employee safety, or financial bottom lines through our industry-leading investigation and remediation services. 

Position Summary: 

As the Principal Architect, you will shape the technical vision and roadmap of our SaaS platform.  Leveraging your extensive experience in software architecture and leadership, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to design and implement scalable, robust and secure solutions that meet the evolving needs of our product and customers.  The ideal candidate has deep technical expertise in platform and data architecture, coupled with a strategic vision backed by a history of planning and execution in a startup environment. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Architectural Strategy - Define and drive the long-term technical architecture strategy that aligns with the company’s goals.  
  • System Design - Lead the design, implementation and maintenance of scalable, secure, high-performing, and cost effective technical infrastructure from conception to deployment, addressing fast-evolving business challenges.  Explore emerging technologies for software engineering, data science, and machine learning to enhance product capabilities and competitiveness.
  • Communication and Collaboration - Communicate architectural plans and recommendations to technical and non-technical stakeholders.  Evangelize technical vision and thought leadership.  Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product management, engineering, data science, finance, sales and customer success to align on technical solutions.
  • Technical Governance - Establish and enforce engineering standards and best practices, including quality assurance initiatives and performance optimization. Drive continuous improvement in development processes, tools and methodologies. 
  • Technical Leadership and Mentorship - Provide leadership, guidance, and mentorship to a talented team of software engineers.  Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning within the technical organization.  Cultivate a high-performance team environment focused on delivering exceptional results.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Technology, or related field.
  • 12+ years of experience in architecting and scaling complex data systems, and/or delivering high quality, complex, enterprise-scale technical solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to design technological architecture within fast-paced, growth-oriented companies. 
  • A track record of mentoring technical teams, fostering a culture of technical excellence, and leading through change.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders at all levels of the organization.

Compensation and Benefits: 

  • Salary and stock options are negotiated based on experience. 
  • Healthcare at the gold-tier level, dental, and vision is fully funded by the employer. 50% of dependent coverage is provided by the employer.  Additional benefits include employer provided life and AD&D insurance and an Employee Assistance Program with a variety of services, including generous Mental Wellbeing support. 
  • Flexible vacation, sick leave, including office closure between Christmas and New Year’s, and extended holidays at Thanksgiving and the 4th of July.
  • Employees may also participate in an Employer sponsored 401k, after their 6-month anniversary, with a 3% match. Health Savings (HSAs) and flexible spending accounts (FSAs) are also offered.
  • Hybrid work environment, with 3 days per week required in office in Washington, D.C or New York.

The salary range for this position is $222,300 to $257,250 per year, depending on the candidate’s skills, experience, and qualifications.   In addition to cash compensation, this role is eligible for a stock option grant. Further, we offer comprehensive benefits, including flexible PTO, health, dental and vision plans, and generous company holidays.  From time to time, employees may also be provided with opportunities for professional growth, development, and advancement.
