Summary Generated by Built In

Lloyd’s is the world’s leading insurance and reinsurance marketplace, bringing together the world’s leading risk takers to advance global progress.

Our strategy is focused on delivering strong underwriting performance, operating an efficient and flexible marketplace, and maximising the capital advantage of the Lloyd’s market — while continuing to build a Lloyd’s we are proud of.

How we deliver this, matters. We take the risk, make things happen, and own the outcome — working together across our global network to turn insight into impact.

Make the market better. It starts with you.

This is a rare opportunity to shape how risk is understood, managed and turned into value across the Lloyd’s market.

As Chief Actuary, you’ll lead one of the most influential actuarial roles in global insurance. You’ll hold the statutory SMF20 function, lead our Market Reserving and Capital team, and guide our wider actuarial community across Lloyd’s and the market.

You’ll set the direction for capital and reserving across the Lloyd’s market, making sure we have strong oversight, clear standards and confident decision-making. You’ll also play a key role in our Senior Leadership Team, helping deliver our strategy and shape the future of Lloyd’s.

At Lloyd’s, we bring together the world’s leading risk takers to advance global progress. This role sits at the heart of that ambition.

What you’ll do

You’ll lead with focus, integrity and influence. You’ll help us build trust, strengthen market performance and support better outcomes for our customers, members and market participants.

In this role, you’ll:

  • Act as Lloyd’s Chief Actuary, holding the statutory SMF20 responsibility for the Actuarial Function.
  • Lead the Market Reserving and Capital department, creating the conditions for people to do their best work.
  • Set the direction for reserving and capital oversight across the Lloyd’s market.
  • Own and develop the Reserving Risk policy, making sure key issues are identified, acted on and escalated where needed.
  • Oversee syndicate reserves across UK GAAP and UK Solvency bases.
  • Direct our risk-based approach to syndicate reserving processes and adequacy.
  • Lead the Lloyd’s Actuarial Community of Practice, championing innovation, best practice and knowledge sharing.
  • Influence the wider market actuarial community, including Syndicate Chief Actuaries and Independent Signing Actuaries.
  • Shape and support capital-setting activity, including syndicate capital requirements and member capitalisation.
  • Work as part of Lloyd’s Senior Leadership Team, with shared accountability for delivering our strategy and Corporation objectives.

What you’ll bring

You’ll be a senior actuarial leader with the judgement, credibility and curiosity to influence a complex global marketplace.

You’ll bring:

  • Deep actuarial expertise across reserving, capital and risk.
  • Strong understanding of insurance, reinsurance and regulatory expectations.
  • Experience leading senior teams and building high-performing, inclusive cultures.
  • The confidence to advise, challenge and influence at Board, committee and market level.
  • A clear, practical approach to complex issues.
  • The ability to make decisions transparently and communicate with impact.
  • A commitment to developing talent, sharing knowledge and improving market standards.
  • Professional integrity, sound judgement and a strong sense of accountability.

This is a role with real influence, real responsibility and real purpose.

You’ll help shape the future of the Lloyd’s market, strengthen confidence in our marketplace and lead a community that plays a vital role in global risk.

Bring change. Grow with it.

Being inclusive at Lloyd’s is integral to how we work — and how we deliver impact.
We aim to build a diverse, inclusive environment that reflects the global markets we serve, where everyone is treated with dignity and respect and supported to reach their full potential.

We take the risk by challenging traditional thinking and being proactive about inclusion. That means being open and positive about workplace adjustments, prioritising health and wellbeing, and investing in diversity and inclusion training so everyone feels able to contribute and succeed.

We make things happen by turning our commitment into action. Through employee networks, mentoring, volunteering opportunities and sustained investment in professional development, we create an environment where inclusion is experienced day‑to‑day — not just talked about.

We own the outcome by focusing on impact. By bringing together diverse perspectives and the best minds in the industry, we work collaboratively with underwriters and brokers to create innovative, responsive solutions that share risk and solve complex problems across global markets.
