JOB DESCRIPTION:

As the Central Indiana Communications and Public Relations Manager, you will be responsible for supporting the mission on The Salvation Army in Central Indiana (hereafter CI), through managing and developing public relations, and writing, managing, and editing content for social media pages, websites, other online services, and various publications. The Communications and Public Relations Manager also provides graphic design, digital creative, and video support to the CI.

 

What You Will Do:

  • Be the chief storyteller for the units of the Central Indiana Salvation Army.
  • Manage the CI Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn accounts for all units. Provide content for The Salvation Army YouTube channel. Assist other media viewing area units.
  • Provide 24-hour monitoring of social media throughout the CI to stay current with unit activities and identify content that needs immediate attention. Assist other area units.
  • Develop and manage relationships with local press by arranging for photo opportunities, news coverage, and developing press releases and talking points for participants.
  • Manage CI website, including calendar and blog updates, and provide oversight of individual unit websites.
  • Train officers and staff web admins throughout the CI on The Salvation Army’s web platform (Zesty) and assist with troubleshooting.
  • Engage in regular Generative Engine Optimization through Zesty and Google.
  • Assist the CI Special Events Manager with online and public promotions for events, including the creation of transactional pages through GoFundMe Pro.
  • Attend special events to capture photos, interview participants, and share event updates in real time via CI and other area unit social media pages.
  • Provide image content from events, programs, and services for The Salvation Army’s Flickr photo galleries.
  • Coordinate advertising with local media, publications, and influencers for the annual Christmas campaign and other events and submit for approval.
  • Write email communications for mass distribution to CI and other area stakeholders.

 

Minimum Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal education, experience, skills, and/or abilities required for this position.

  • College degree preferred
  • 4+ years in a related communications field preferred

 

Certifications: Must have a valid driver’s license and maintain The Salvation Army Driver’s qualification standard; must complete Safe From Harm training within the first 30 days of employment.

 

Background Checks: Position requires a background check to be completed, and all background check results will be reviewed.

 

Skills/Abilities:

  • Strong communication and organization
  • Ability to meet deadlines and adhere to confidentiality
  • Experience with both Microsoft and Mac platforms preferred
  • Experience with Canva a plus

 

Supervisory Responsibility: May supervise interns and/or support staff and volunteers as needed.

Physical Requirements Include:

  • Good speaking, hearing and vision ability, and excellent manual dexterity
  • Lifting, pulling, and pushing of materials up to 25 pounds

  • May require standing for extended periods

 

Travel: Travel required primarily within Marion County and the surrounding collar counties, with occasional travel within the state of Indiana and to Chicago for training purposes.

 

Working Conditions: Work is performed in a typical office environment, with occasional work at Salvation Army units and area venues. Work may occasionally include evenings and weekends, especially during the Christmas season.
