About the role
As a Category Manager Retail, you will play a key role in accelerating the growth, profitability, and market share of McCain's Frozen Potatoes & Appetizers category across the French retail market. Acting as the bridge between Sales and Marketing, you will leverage shopper, category, and customer insights to create winning strategies and deliver sustainable value for both McCain and our retail partners.
What you'll be doing
- Analyse category, shopper, and market performance using consumer panels, sell-out data, and market insights to identify growth opportunities.
- Act as the category expert, monitoring consumer trends across Hypermarkets, Supermarkets, Proximity Stores, and E-Commerce channels.
- Build strong collaborative relationships with key retail customers to support category growth and value creation.
- Develop and implement category strategies that deliver profitable growth for McCain and its customers.
- Optimise assortment, promotional plans, merchandising initiatives, and customer-specific category recommendations.
- Translate category strategies into actionable shelf and planogram recommendations.
- Support the successful launch of new products through market analysis, opportunity assessment, and post-launch performance tracking.
- Partner closely with Key Account Managers, Marketing, and Field Sales teams to execute category plans.
- Monitor customer performance and recommend corrective actions to maximise business results.
- Deliver compelling category insights and presentations to both internal stakeholders and customers.
What you'll need to be successful
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Economics, or a related field.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in Category Management, Shopper Marketing, Merchandising, or Retail Analytics, ideally within the FMCG or food industry.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to transform data into actionable business recommendations.
- Experience working with market data, shopper insights, consumer panels, and sell-out analysis.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint; experience with Power BI and data visualisation tools is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of retail environments and customer strategies.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Proven ability to build effective partnerships with customers and cross-functional teams.
- Strategic mindset combined with strong problem-solving capabilities and data-driven decision-making.
- Fluent French and professional English communication skills.
About the team
You will join the Category Management team and report directly to the Category Management Manager. Working at the heart of the Commercial organization, you will collaborate daily with Sales, Marketing, and Field teams to shape category growth strategies and deliver best-in-class customer partnerships. The team plays a critical role in connecting consumer insights, category expertise, and customer needs to drive business performance across the retail channel.
