Join us as a Category Manager and play a key role in blending analytics, product strategy, and visual merchandising to strengthen Boise Co-op’s competitive position. In this role, you’ll conduct category reviews, guide placement decisions, analyze performance, and collaborate with teams to create insight-driven merchandising strategies that support overall sales and profitability goals.

WHAT YOU’LL DO
  • Continuously monitor product performance, inventory data, and merchandising effectiveness to identify opportunities for optimization and growth.
  • Blend category management strategy with visual merchandising principles to create compelling, cohesive displays that support strong financial performance.
  • Develop visually impactful product displays that highlight features, benefits, and strong storytelling to enhance the customer experience.
  • Identify and implement cross-merchandising opportunities by pairing complementary items to drive incremental sales.
  • Integrate seasonal and specialty products into displays in alignment with trends, customer preferences, and category goals.
  • Ensure accurate, strategic brand representation and optimized product placement, with a focus on supporting local brand growth where appropriate.
  • Collaborate with merchandising, operations, and product teams to ensure alignment and seamless execution of category strategies.
  • Discover and evaluate new brands and innovative products to introduce exciting offerings to Boise Co-op customers.
  • Stay current on industry trends, emerging consumer preferences, and market innovations to guide category decision-making.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with vendors to support product partnerships, collaboration, and category diversification.
WHAT YOU BRING
  • Strong organizational, planning, and project management skills with the ability to execute independently.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, occasionally ambiguous environment while balancing multiple priorities and stakeholders.
  • Reliability and accountability, including strong adherence to scheduled shifts and punctuality.
  • Flexibility to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and varied schedules.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and follow-through.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office—especially Excel (VLOOKUP, SUMIFS, pivot tables, INDEX/MATCH, formatting, CONCATENATE, etc.).
  • Experience with planogram and assortment tools (e.g., Spaceman, BlueYonder) preferred.
  • Commitment to supporting Boise Co-op’s values and delivering an exceptional customer and employee experience.
EXPERIENCE
  • Three or more years of category management or product line management experience required.
  • Experience with planogram assortment tools preferred.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office Suite required.
  • Must be at least 18 years old to support all category duties.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This role requires the ability to work in both office and retail environments with prolonged sitting or standing and frequent bending, reaching, and lifting up to 50 lbs. You must be able to use office equipment requiring repetitive hand movements and communicate clearly with team members, vendors, and store staff.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed in both an administrative office and a grocery retail setting, with frequent collaboration, public contact, and interruptions. The role requires balancing independent analysis with in-store execution, supporting a dynamic, customer-focused environment.
