About the Role

An exciting opportunity to expand your career as a skilled procurement professional and utilise your passion for driving supplier excellence and make a significant impact across a broad range of procurement activities.

This is a site‑based role at Portland Aluminium Smelter, Victoria where you will be a permanent procurement presence supporting a growing capital portfolio. The incumbent needs to work closely with project engineering SPA’s to ensure congruence between project objectives and procurement plans.

In this role, your key responsibilities will be:

  • Working with the on‑site capital and project teams, engineering partners, Legal, and the broader Perth‑based procurement function, ensuring contractors comply with Alcoa terms and deliver to scope, schedule and budget.

  • Requiring you to be highly self‑empowered and outcome‑driven, managing multiple tender packages concurrently, prioritising competing deadlines, and confidently engaging senior stakeholders.

  • Being part of a small but growing capital procurement team at Portland Aluminium, with strong visibility, autonomy, and the opportunity to grow into a site‑lead role as the function continues to expand.

  • Several years’ experience as a Procurement Buyer, within smelter industry or heavy industry (e.g. mining, manufacturing/production, oil & gas).

  • Ability to work in a team environment, providing support to team members, management and customers.

  • Drive a solution approach to problems, working collaborative with other team members or customers.

  • Ability to deal with high volume, low value procurement requirements to deliver requirements on time.

  • Skills and expertise in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, data mining, analytical and query tools.

  • A sound working knowledge of Procurement and business processes, clear and strong communication, attention to detail, taking initiative and ability to work unsupervised.

  • Demonstrated influencing capability and skills as the role will work directly with internal customers such as Project Managers.

  • High levels of autonomy and decision‑making confidence, able to work independently on site, drive outcomes, and guide stakeholders.
