The Markets Group of NY Fed implements monetary policy on behalf of the Federal Reserve System, executes lender of last resort operations for depository institutions in the Fed’s Second District, provides payments and custody services to foreign central banks, and acts as fiscal agent for the U.S. Treasury.  

 

As part of these responsibilities, the mission of the trading desk in the Markets Group is to: 

  • Implement domestic open market and foreign currency operations in a manner that is consistent with directives of the Federal Open Market Committee. 

  • Monitor and analyze global financial markets to inform the formulation and implementation of monetary policy. 

  • Produce New York Fed Reference Rates using transactional data. 

  • Provide capital markets-related transaction services on behalf of the U.S. Treasury. 

  • Conduct financial market transactions on behalf of foreign and international monetary authorities (FIMA). 

 

How You’ll Make an Impact as a Capital Markets Trading Analyst: 

Your work will involve the maintenance and analysis of financial markets and transactional data, supporting the conduct of financial market operations to implement monetary policy and act as fiscal agent for the US Treasury, and market monitoring and analysis. More specifically, you will: 

  • Maintain, improve, and build a variety of critical datasets and tools that support monetary policy operations and fiscal agent activities; 

  • Develop an understanding of a variety of relevant data sources, such as TRACE trade data, and others. Work toward integrating those data sources and generating analysis to support the team’s daily activities. This may include integrating data into dashboards or using other visualization tools; 

  • Support and conduct the planning and execution of monetary policy operations (i.e. purchases and sales of Treasuries, repos, reverse repos) and/or fiscal agent transactions (i.e. Treasury debt auctions): 

  • Analyze and report on developments in financial markets as they relate to monetary and fiscal policy; 

  • Assist senior staff members with ad-hoc projects related to policy, operations, market analysis and data analysis

 

The Unique Skill Sets We’re Looking For: 

  • Demonstrated interest in financial markets and monetary policy including the ability to discuss the basic functions of the Federal Reserve 

  • Full-time workplace experience handling and manipulating complex data sets

  • Experience with Microsoft excel (can perform complex functions)

  • Familiarity with data analysis or visualization tools such as: Tableau/Power BI, SQL, Python, R, and/or Bloomberg 

  • Familiarity with AI capabilities and productivity tools which could be leveraged to optimize operational and analytical processes and products 

  • Strong written and oral communication and interpersonal skills

Salary Range:

NY: $100700- $124600

Chicago: $88600- $109700
