Job Summary:

The On-Call classroom substitute supports and supervises students in the event that one of the classroom team members is absent. 

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Perform classroom staff member duties in their absence. 
  2. Follow direction of the teacher/acting teacher including following lesson plans to create a cohesive and consistent learning experience for students.
  3. Manage the classroom effectively to encourage student participation, minimize distractions and maintain a positive learning environment.
  4. Adapt teaching methods to fit the needs of each student.
  5. Supervise students in and out of the classroom including in the halls, on the playground, cafeteria and car line.
  6. Implement individual behavior plans as needed.
  7. Ensure and provide basic care giving duties (utilizing universal health and safety precautions) for children, including, but not limited to feeding children, and cleaning children’s hands, faces, etc.
  8. Assist in communication with therapists and members of the multi-disciplinary team.
  9. Maintain positive staff and parent interactions.
  10. Ensure compliance with requirements and guidelines set forth by UCP, HIPAA, NAEYC, Department of Education, 4C, Department of Children and Families, and other State and Federal agencies.
  11. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Training: 

  • Minimum – G.E.D or High School
  • If subbing for PreK - 45 Hour Department of Children and Family Training within first 90 days.

Minimum Experience:

  • 1 year or more childcare or classroom experience  
  • Prefer experience working with students with and without disabilities.

Skills Required

  • G.E.D. or High School diploma
  • 45 Hour Department of Children and Families Training within first 90 days (required if subbing PreK)
  • 1 year or more childcare or classroom experience
  • Experience working with students with and without disabilities
