The Role
Leads CAE and finite element structural analyses for complete vehicle structures, including body, chassis, interior, glass, bumpers, modules, and closures. Develops analysis capabilities, creates FEA plans, interprets results, recommends mass- and cost-efficient design solutions, coordinates internal and supplier resources, supports validation, and contributes to new vehicle development programs.

DUTIES: Gather information from a variety of sources inside and outside GM, build and run analytical models, interpret results for customers, attend development team meetings, and interact with compartment integration teams. Lead and execute development of new engineering analysis capabilities. Participate with Product Development teams on new/major/minor designs, providing analysis to assess performance of new designs. Create and execute Finite Element Analysis (FEA) plans for assigned projects. Lead CAE suppliers and internal resources to meet program milestones and deliverables. Perform structural analysis on complete Trimmed Vehicle Structure Consisting of BIW, Chassis Structure, Interior Structure (IP), Fixed Glass, Bumpers, Modules (i.e. CRFM, Battery), and Closures. Use CAE to explain results of physical testing and engineer solutions to resolve issues with validation and release engineers. Stay abreast of new technology, competitive products, and latest CAE tools/trends. Hybrid Work Policy - 3 days In-Office, 2 Days Remote - Must be able to report to local office.
REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field and Five (5) years of experience as a CAE Engineer, Automotive Engineer, Mechanical Engineer, or related role. Five (5) years of experience with the following: 2D and 3D CAD modeling; Finite Element Analysis Tools; Structural Durability Analysis and Simulations Utilizing N Code including Design Life; Linear and Non-Linear Simulations including Abaqus, Nastran and Dyna; Performing structural analysis on complete Trimmed Vehicle Structure Consisting of BIW, Chassis Structure, Interior Structure (IP), Fixed Glass, Bumpers, Modules, and Closures; and Developing new engineering analysis capabilities.
