At Norton, you won’t just be producing drawings that disappear into a folder. You’ll help turn customer ideas, site information and practical farming requirements into livestock handling solutions that are built, installed and put to work.
Based in Hastings, Victoria, Norton is an established Australian manufacturer of livestock handling equipment, farm gates and yard solutions. As part of the Gallagher family, we combine local manufacturing expertise with the resources and reach of a global organisation.
You’ll work closely with Sales, Operations and Manufacturing, giving you the opportunity to see projects through from the initial concept right through to production and installation.

The OpportunityAs our CAD Draftsperson, you’ll turn customer requirements and site information into practical, manufacturable livestock handling solutions.
You’ll create yard layouts, scaled aerial site plans and concept designs using customer requirements, site measurements, survey information and drone imagery. From there, you’ll develop detailed 2D and 3D CAD models, fabrication drawings, assembly documentation and bills of materials ready for production.
Working across Sales, Operations and Manufacturing, you’ll help make sure designs are practical, cost-effective, accurate and fit for purpose.
You’ll be responsible for
Creating customer sales plans, yard layouts and scaled site plans
Designing cattle and sheep yards that support safe, efficient livestock flow
Producing detailed 2D and 3D CAD models and fabrication drawings
Preparing component, assembly and sub-assembly documentation
Developing accurate bills of materials and component schedules
Managing drawing revisions and maintaining drafting standards
Working with internal teams to solve design and manufacturing challenges
You’re a practical, detail-focused CAD professional who enjoys taking an idea and figuring out how to make it work.
You’ll bring:
A qualification in engineering drafting, mechanical design or a related discipline
Experience with SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD, Fusion 360 or similar
Experience producing 2D and 3D drawings in manufacturing, fabrication or engineering
Knowledge of fabrication drawings, BOMs and assembly documentation
An understanding of steel fabrication, welding and manufacturing processes
Strong spatial awareness, accuracy and problem-solving skills
Experience with livestock handling equipment, agricultural manufacturing, rural infrastructure, aerial mapping or survey data would be a bonus.
