WHO WE ARE

Elliott Davis pairs forward-thinking tax, assurance and consulting services with industry-leading workplace culture. Our nine offices — located in the fastest growing cities in the US — are built on a foundation of inclusivity, collaboration, and collective growth. We work daily to provide exceptional service to our people, customers, and our communities. Audit and assurance services are provided by Elliott Davis, LLC (doing business in NC and D.C. as Elliott Davis, PLLC), a licensed CPA firm.

The CAAS Projects Advisory Senior helps customers solve accounting and finance challenges through hands-on, project-based advisory work. Working alongside experienced Managers and Directors, the Senior owns key workstreams, interacts directly with customer teams, and delivers practical solutions that strengthen accounting operations and support business needs.

Engagements may include cash-to-accrual conversions, accounting cleanup and remediation, interim Assistant Controller support, month-end close optimization, accounting process improvement, and ERP or accounting system transitions. No two engagements are exactly alike, providing broad exposure to industries, accounting environments, and business challenges.

This role is ideal for an accounting professional who is naturally curious, takes ownership, enjoys problem solving, and wants to move beyond testing into execution. The Senior will build operational accounting and advisory skills, coach associates, lead portions of engagements with increasing independence, and develop toward a future CAAS Projects Advisory Manager role.

Why This Opportunity Is Different

This role offers the opportunity to move beyond maintaining or reviewing established processes and take a more active role in solving accounting and finance challenges. You will work across a variety of customers and projects, improve operations, and help create practical solutions that fit each organization’s immediate needs. The work combines hands-on execution, meaningful customer interaction, and a clear path to grow as a CAAS advisor and leader.

Responsibilities
  • Execute project-based accounting and finance engagements, including cash-to-accrual conversions, accounting cleanup and remediation, month-end close support and optimization, process improvement, and ERP or accounting system transitions.
  • Support interim Assistant Controller and other accounting leadership engagements by helping customers manage close, reporting, reconciliations, and day-to-day accounting priorities.
  • Own significant workstreams with limited supervision, including planning tasks, gathering information, resolving issues, and communicating progress.
  • Prepare and review account reconciliations, journal entries, financial reporting schedules, process documentation, and other engagement deliverables.
  • Investigate accounting issues, identify root causes, and develop practical solutions that meet customer needs and support sound operations.
  • Work directly with Controllers, accounting teams, and other customer stakeholders; participate in meetings and present work product and recommendations.
  • Balance hands-on execution with increasing responsibility for leading portions of meetings, projects, and customer interactions.
  • Coach associates through delegation, review, feedback, and hands-on learning.
  • Coordinate priorities and deadlines across multiple engagements while proactively communicating risks or barriers.
  • Maintain responsibility for the quality, accuracy, timeliness, and practical usefulness of assigned work.
  • Collaborate with Managers, Directors, and professionals across Elliott Davis to deliver integrated customer solutions.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA license.
  • Typically 4 to 6 years of progressive accounting experience. Candidates with approximately 3 years of public accounting audit experience plus relevant CAAS, advisory, Assistant Controller, or operational accounting experience will also be considered.
  • Public accounting audit experience or comparable experience providing a strong foundation in financial reporting, month-end close, account reconciliations, and internal controls.
  • Strong analytical, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Naturally curious, accountable, and comfortable managing multiple priorities in changing environments.
  • Ability to work independently, collaborate with engagement teams, and communicate directly with customers.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365, including Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in CAAS/CAS, outsourced accounting, accounting advisory, or an Assistant Controller role.
  • Experience with cash-to-accrual conversions, accounting cleanup, month-end close optimization, or accounting process improvement.
  • Experience with private equity-backed, healthcare, biotech, life sciences, distribution, manufacturing, or growth-oriented organizations.
  • Experience with ERP implementations, accounting system conversions, or workflow automation.
