Position Overview
The Buyer position is responsible for working within the Content Manager (IQMS) to procure materials in a timely manner to meet production needs while maintaining PDSOH goals. The buyer is also responsible for managing the price variances of their materials to ensure we meet the PPV goals.
Quick Summary
The Buyer purchases commodities required for manufacturing production, support materials, durable goods and other merchandise. Purchases raw materials and components; basing selection on the requirements of the Customer or demand for specific commodity, or other property utilizing knowledge of various articles of commerce. They will work with Planners and Program Management to understand demand requirements to support production. They will work with suppliers to negotiate terms, prices and conditions for the purchase of the product as needed. They will work with Suppliers to promote continuous improvement with pricing, delivery and service to maintain flexibility with our customers. They will be responsible for quoting product as needed for current and new business.
Basic Background Requirements
This position will require:
- 3+ years of experience within a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to follow up with suppliers and report out on progress.
- Manage time and projects effectively while setting and meeting aggressive schedules.
- Proficient use of Microsoft Tools.
Key Performance Objectives
Short Term: (0 to 3 months)
- Learn and adopt Kimball Electronics philosophies and culture
- Applicable training to comply with Kimball Electronics Quality Management System
- Train on Content Manager (IQMS) to satisfy daily procurement activities
- Demonstrate a general understanding of daily responsibilities
Midterm: (3 to 6 months)
- Assist with material shortage and what if reviews as needed
- Stay current on past due PO’s
- Assist with lead time and VMI reviews as needed
Long term: (6 to 12 months)
- Show PPV gains
- Provide opportunities for improvement in procurement processes
- Able to take on special projects as defined by business need
- Provide new product quotes to Quotations team as required
