Business Solutions Lead
Location : Auckland
This role is responsible for overseeing the design, enhancement, and delivery of business and system solutions that support Apex NZ’s fund administration and investment operations. The role combines leadership and hands on delivery, designing, documenting and implementing solutions across Apex NZ’s platforms and teams. By applying deep technical expertise and strong operational insight, the Business Solutions Lead drives continuous improvement, automation, and scalable service delivery across the organisation.
Job Responsibilities:
Drive the development and implementation of business and system solutions that enhance operational efficiency, data integrity, and the quality of client reporting.
Oversee system setup and data preparation activities for client onboardings and fund launches, ensuring platforms, workflows, and controls are fully operational and aligned with delivery requirements.
Manage and maintain the business solutions backlog within MS DevOps (or equivalent), ensuring requests are prioritised, resourced, and delivered in line with client and internal SLA frameworks.
Develop, maintain, and optimise macros, VBA/VBScript automations, and SQL queries to support fund administration and performance reporting processes.
Oversee configuration and maintenance of fund administration and wealth administration platforms, including data templates, reconciliation tools, and reporting models.
Collaborate cross functionally to define requirements, design solutions, and implement process and system improvements.
Produce and oversee regulatory reporting deliverables, ensuring compliance with FMA and other regulatory bodies
Provide subject matter expertise on investment operations, fund accounting, and performance measurement methodologies.
Support client and internal discussions on new solution requests, ensuring feasibility, design, and delivery expectations are clearly understood and documented.
Identify and lead initiatives to automate and standardise key operational workflows to reduce manual effort and risk.
Ensure all system and process changes are properly documented, tested, and governed under change control and audit requirements.
Monitor adherence to client SLA frameworks, ensuring timely and accurate delivery across business solution outputs.
Guide and mentor team members, fostering technical capability and continuous improvement across the team.
Skills required:
5+ years in business analysis, solution design, or a related field.
Leadership or team lead experience with proven leadership and stakeholder management skills
Proven experience designing and maintaining technical automations using Excel, VBA/VBScript, and SQL.
Experience managing delivery backlogs and SLA-driven workflows.
Degree in Business, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience).
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including development and optimisation of macros, VBA/VBScript, and complex formulas.
Strong knowledge of SQL for data querying, validation, and analysis.
Demonstrated technical capability in building automation and analytical tools to support fund administration and investment operations.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
Strong understanding of investment products, fund accounting, and financial markets
Agile or IIBA-aligned certification is desirable.
