Job Summary
The Business Plan Reviewer is responsible for conducting comprehensive reviews of business plans and Know Your Customer (KYC) documentation to ensure that information presented is accurate, complete, consistent, and sufficiently supported for internal credit adjudication. The position provides constructive guidance to clients and Business Plan Writers to strengthen the quality and presentation of business plans, while ensuring that plans meet the organization's established review standards and minimum scoring requirements. The Business Plan Reviewer also supports the effective management of the business plan review pipeline, coordinates the assignment of clients to Business Plan Writers where appropriate, facilitates client preparation for Investment Committee presentations, and participates in credit-related discussions and presentations as required.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Evaluate business plans and accompanying KYC documentation for correctness, completeness, accuracy, and consistency.
- Verify information presented within business plans against supporting documentation and KYC information provided.
- Identify discrepancies, omissions, inconsistencies, or areas requiring clarification and ensure these are appropriately addressed.
- Assess business plans using the approved Business Plan Review Sheet and established review criteria.
- Ensure that every business plan submitted to the Internal Credit Committee/Credit Adjudication meets the minimum required score of 80.
- Recommend no fewer than eight (8) properly constructed and review-compliant business plans for submission to Internal Credit Committee/Credit Adjudication, in accordance with established monthly requirements.
- Ensure that reviewed business plans demonstrate adequate business rationale, supporting information, financial information, and overall presentation quality before recommendation.
- Provide constructive, professional, and timely feedback to clients and Business Plan Writers to improve the structure, content, quality, and presentation of business plans.
- Clearly communicate required amendments and ensure that Business Plan Writers and clients understand review findings and expectations.
- Assign clients to Business Plan Writers for additional assistance where appropriate and manage the assignment process.
- Monitor correspondence between Business Plan Writers and clients to ensure clear communication, appropriate follow-up, and alignment of expectations.
- Determine when additional support services may be beneficial to a client, including SBDC University, BICA vouchers, Business Plan Writer vouchers, or other relevant business support services.
- Liaise with appropriate internal team members when clarification or guidance regarding the review process is required.
- Effectively manage the assigned client and task pipeline to ensure timely completion of business plan reviews.
- Maintain the Business Plan Review Pipeline document and ensure it is updated and submitted to Management by the 15th of each month.
- Monitor outstanding client and Business Plan Writer actions and conduct appropriate follow-up to minimize delays.
- Prioritize reviews based on established timelines, Credit Committee schedules, and Management requirements.
- Ensure all required documentation and review records are properly maintained and readily accessible.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of business plans under review, pending revisions, completed reviews, and plans recommended for Credit Committee/Credit Adjudication.
- Conduct pitch preparation sessions with clients before their Credit Committee presentations.
- Determine when additional support services may be beneficial to a client, including SBDC University, BICA vouchers, Business Plan Writer vouchers, or other relevant business support services.
Requirements
Education/Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Economics, Entrepreneurship, or a related field.
Professional qualification in business, finance, accounting, credit, or a related discipline would be an asset.
Minimum of 3–5 years' experience in business advisory, credit analysis, financial services, entrepreneurship support, business planning, accounting, or a related field.
Demonstrated experience reviewing business plans, financial information, credit applications, or business documentation.
Strong knowledge of business planning principles and practices.
Understanding of financial statements and basic financial analysis.
Knowledge of credit assessment and credit adjudication principles.
Understanding of KYC requirements and documentation standards.
Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills.
Ability to identify inconsistencies, gaps, and potential risks within business documentation.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word and Excel.
Strong documentation, record-keeping, and pipeline management skills.
Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet established deadlines.
