About Motorway

Motorway is the UK's largest online car-selling platform. We connect private sellers directly with over 8,000 dealers nationwide. Our online platform helps sellers achieve great prices for their cars while giving dealers fast, reliable access to the stock they want for their dealerships. Founded in 2017, our award-winning, technology-led approach has redefined the experience of selling a car. Motorway is backed by some of the world’s leading technology investors, having raised £143 million in Series C funding.

This is a unique opportunity to join a fast-growing scale-up at a crucial phase of growth and help change an industry for the better.

The Role

We are looking for a highly adaptable and autonomous Business Operations Associate to join our team. This is a highly dynamic role focused on solving important operational and commercial problems across the Dealer journey. You will focus strictly on the B2B/Dealer side of our marketplace, acting as a key driver for improving our post-sale experience.

You will combine strong analytical thinking with practical execution. That means identifying opportunities through data and observation, developing clear hypotheses, and then driving cross-functional initiatives that deliver measurable outcomes.

The role is intentionally broad. You will work across teams including Sales, Product, Engineering, Marketing, Finance, and commercial functions—as well as partner third parties—to solve complex problems and implement scalable solutions. In this role, you will have consistent exposure to Leadership, including our Director of Dealer Services and our COO.

Motorway moves quickly and operates in an environment that is constantly evolving. This role suits someone who thrives in ambiguity, is naturally curious, demonstrates high agency, and enjoys taking ownership of messy problems and turning them into structured solutions. We’re looking for someone who instinctively looks for smarter ways to get things done, whether that is redesigning a process, automating manual work, or using AI / Tooling to solve gnarly problems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Enhance the Dealer Post-Sale Experience: Identify operational and commercial improvement opportunities across our Dealer journey, dedicating significant focus to elevating our transport (Motorway Move) and payments (Motorway Pay) products and services.

  • Drive Stickiness and Retention: Identify friction points in the dealer journey and execute improvement strategies to boost platform stickiness and directly reduce cancellation rates.

  • Spearhead AI and Automation: Streamline operational workflows by embedding AI to handle routine tasks, taking license to explore creative ways to use AI tools to build faster, leaner, and better operational frameworks.

  • Innovate Novel Post-Sale Areas: Beyond Move and Pay, research, test, and implement new improvements and services that deliver continuous value to our dealers.

  • Lead Cross-Functional Projects: Drive projects from idea through to implementation, partnering with teams across Sales, Product, Engineering, Marketing, Finance, and external partners.

  • Data-Driven Analysis: Analyse operational, financial, and product data to diagnose problems, inform prioritisation, and uncover opportunities to improve dealer retention, CX, and efficiency.

  • Define Metrics & Action Plans: Develop clear business cases, success metrics, and tracking frameworks for initiatives while translating complex operational problems into actionable plans for key stakeholders.

  • Operate with High Ownership: Drive change with a high degree of ownership, pace, and adaptability in a fast-moving and ambiguous environment.

What We Are Looking For
  • High Agency & Problem Solving: Strong problem-solving ability with high agency, thriving in an environment with a wide span of control and proactively diving deep into ambiguous problems.

  • B2B / Dealer Empathy: A strong understanding of the complexities of B2B relationships and empathy for dealer workflows to build better post-sale experiences.

  • Strategic & Analytical Mindset: Experience analysing data to look at the big picture and identify high-opportunity areas.

  • Track Record of Execution: A proven track record of driving cross-functional initiatives or projects from idea through to delivery in a fast-moving environment.

  • Clear & Structured Communication: The ability to structure ambiguous problems and simplify complex operational topics into clear, digestible written and verbal communications for leadership and stakeholders.

  • Tech-Forward & AI-Curious: An eager approach to learning and experimenting with emerging AI tools to automate workflows, analyse problems, and improve productivity.

  • Adaptable Team Player: Comfortable collaborating across Sales, Product, Marketing, and Leadership teams to ensure operational improvements align seamlessly with company goals.
