About the Role:The Business Intelligence Developer will design, develop, implement, and maintain business intelligence solutions using Microsoft’s Power BI platform. This role will work closely with business partners to understand their data and reporting needs and transform those needs into meaningful dashboards with actionable information. This role requires a blend of technical skills, analytical skills, and communication skills.
Accountable For:The Business Intelligence Developer will be responsible for the design, implementation and management of custom business intelligence solutions created with Microsoft’s Power BI platform.
ResponsibilitiesDeveloping Reports and Dashboards: Creating interactive and visually appealing reports and dashboards using Power BI Desktop and the Power BI Service. This involves selecting appropriate charts and graphs, implementing filters and slicers, and designing user-friendly layouts to effectively communicate data insights and key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor business performance.
Understanding Business Requirements: Collaborating with stakeholders from various departments to understand their data and reporting needs. This involves asking questions, analyzing existing reports, and identifying key performance indicators (KPIs).
Data Source Connectivity: Connecting Power BI to various data sources, which can include databases (SQL Server, Oracle, etc.), cloud services (Azure, AWS, Google Cloud), spreadsheets (Excel, CSV), APIs, and other data platforms.
Data Transformation and Modeling: Using Power Query (M language) within Power BI to clean, transform, and shape data into a format suitable for analysis and reporting. This includes tasks like filtering, merging, appending, pivoting, and creating calculated columns. This also involves designing and building efficient data models, defining relationships between tables to ensure data integrity and optimize performance using DAX (Data Analysis Expressions).
Writing DAX Queries and Measures: Utilizing DAX to create calculations, measures, and calculated columns that provide valuable business metrics and insights beyond the raw data. This can involve complex calculations for trends, comparisons, and forecasting.
Troubleshooting and support: Identify and resolve system issues, providing technical assistance to end users.
Ensuring Data Quality and Accuracy: Implementing processes and checks to ensure the accuracy, consistency, and reliability of the data presented in reports and dashboards. This may involve data validation and working with data engineers to resolve data quality issues.
Project work: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define system requirements and specifications, working with other groups within the organization capturing proper details in support of department projects and/or assisting with issues.
Deployment and Sharing: Publishing reports and dashboards to the Power BI Service and managing their sharing and security settings to ensure the right people have access to the information they need.
Performance Optimization: Identifying and implementing techniques to optimize the performance of Power BI reports and dashboards, especially when dealing with large datasets. This can involve optimizing DAX queries, data models, and report design.
Documentation and Training: Creating technical documentation for developed solutions, including data sources, data models, and report functionalities. Provide training and support to end-users on how to interact with and interpret the Power BI reports and dashboards. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to other. IT personnel, help desk staff, and end users. Be a trusted resource for Business Intelligence best practices.
Stay up-to-date with the latest industry trends, features, updates and best practices to ensure our solutions are cutting-edge. Strong drive to learn and improve processes.
Must be available for on-call and provide technical support for systems related issues.
Travel to different sites as required.

Minimum 5 years’ experience in creating and managing business intelligence solutions.
Technical skills: Proficient in designing and developing reports and dashboards using Microsoft’s Power BI Platform functionality, obtaining data from various sources, including but not limited to CRM, ERP, PLM, SQL Server, Excel and SharePoint. Experience with multiple manufacturing software platforms (MES) a plus. The ability to optimize dashboards with a focus on usability and performance. Strong knowledge of data modeling and the ability to structure data models to ensure efficient data retrieval and analysis. Have a basic understanding of SQL and relational databases. Proficient in Data Analysis Expressions (DAX) to create custom calculations and aggregations. Strong skills in Power Query to transform and manipulate data. Experience developing reports and dashboards in Tableau a plus. Experience with other Microsoft tools such as Power Apps and Power Automate a plus. Experience building dashboards for the manufacturing industry a plus. Power BI certifications a plus.
Analytical skills: Ability to interpret and analyze complex data sets to identify trends, patterns, and insights. Experience in manufacturing and with manufacturing data a plus.
Communication skills: Excellent written and verbal communication to interact with users and stakeholders. Ability to understand business data and translate to technical solutions. Ability to write technical documentation.
Collaboration: Ability to be a supportive technical resource with a positive attitude that is always willing to assist others. Must have strong collaboration skills, a can-do attitude, and a solutioning mindset.
Problem-solving skills: Ability to diagnose issues, develop solutions, and implement changes efficiently.
Attention to detail: Ensuring precision in data handling to maintain the accuracy and reliability of reports. Ability to visualize comprehensive solutions and thoroughly test them, focusing not only on data accuracy but also on creating visually appealing and user-friendly interfaces.
Adaptable to new technologies and changing requirements, and has the drive to stay up to date with the latest and greatest features of Business Intelligence and Power BI.
Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, business intelligence/analytics or equivalent technical experience/certification required.
Minimum of 5 years' experience.
Local Travel: Less than 10%
Office Environment - Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time and occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc. Required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading. May be required to exert up to 25 pounds of force occasionally to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
Factory - The worker may be subject to hazards. Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, vibration, moving vehicles, electrical current, exposure to temperature changes or exposure to chemicals. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, odors, dust, mists, and gases. The noise level in the work environment can be loud. Required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication parts at distances close to the eyes. Machinery operation requires the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to eye safety glasses, hearing protectors, work boots, and lab coats. May be required to exert up to 40 pounds of force occasionally to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
