This role helps support the reporting initiatives of the myQ platform. Chamberlain’s Connected Solutions team utilizes tools to store, process, and analyze the large volumes of transactional data that is collected from these connected devices and users’ interactions with the mobile phone apps. The role supports reporting and analytical projects that ingest, transform, store, and visualize data about connected accounts, devices, and usage. The BI Developer will collaborate with group Managers, Director or Engineering Manager as delegated to identify projects and business user requirements. Once project scope is defined, the BI Developer will utilize the Agile Methodology to incrementally create, test and deploy a data models and reporting solutions or dashboards.
Job Responsibilities:
- Identify and troubleshoot issues with data inconsistencies in data models or reports evolving into self-sufficient analysis and report design
- Apply business rules & data cleansing to automate business rule data manipulations using macros or scripts
- Develop basic predictive & explanatory models into production class solutions; educate others on the model dynamics and functions; maintain documentation on the model and data flow processes
- Transform operational/platform problems into actionable insights by identifying correlation and causation between related occurrences across data sets housed in different platforms
- Identify data requirements and manipulate unstructured data into relational data that can be modeled; Construct the ETL ingestion tools or scripts to reduce manual effort of data acquisition or refresh
- Assist stakeholders or business leaders to identify business value or operational performance trends within the large data sets
- Help users/product owners develop User Story tickets containing the business requirements and acceptance criteria for project or squad enhancement initiatives
- Acquire data from a wide variety of sources & build PowerBI data models and dashboards; Administer the data refresh interval (daily, weekly, etc.) such that content remains fresh and delivered business value
- Develop documentation and user training materials and best-practices wiki articles for other users of the data reports which are built and shared
- Responsible for complying with the security requirements set forth by the Information Security team and the established ISO 27001 Security Roles, Responsibilities, and Authorities Document found in the ISMS Document Library
- Comply with health and safety guidelines and rules; managers should also ensure compliance across their teams.
- Protect Chamberlain Group’s reputation by keeping information confidential.
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reading professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.
- Contribute to the team effort by accomplishing related results and participating on projects as needed.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Analytics, or another related field
- 0-2 years experience in working “Big Data” roles and projects.
- Working experience with Python, R, SQL, cloud data warehouses/data stores such as Databricks
- Experience with PowerBI or related data visualization technologies
- Experience in developing ETL processes and collaborative data workflows (ETLs written with Python, Spark, Impala, or SSIS preferred) & complex query performance tuning
- Hands-on experience with use of action filters, user filters, advanced navigation techniques, or Level-of-Detail (LOD) expressions.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Basic SQL skills; can review and debug scripts written buy others. Can write SQL queries joining multiple sources.
- Basic understanding of Data Warehousing concepts & technologies; can recommend data management solutions
- Ability to effectively operate independently and in a team environment (with both internal and external resources)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; can prepare PowerPoint presentation slide decks and present them
- Strong communication skills & willingness to take initiative to contribute beyond basic responsibilities along with the ability to effectively present to the target audience. Can coach team members on development of presentation materials.
Preferred Job Requirements:
- Complex problem solving using large volume data sets (gigabytes to terabytes)
- PowerBI user interface experience along with understanding good design aesthetic for effective visualization of data
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Public cloud provider console/portal experience
- Working ability with the Atlassian tools JIRA and Confluence
- Willing to support occasional data migration projects in off hours timelines, if needed
