Business Intelligence Data EngineerHuntsman is seeking a Business Intelligence Data Engineer supporting the Global Reporting & Analytics (GRA) environment located in San Jose, Costa Rica. This position will report to the Manager Finance II
Job ScopeThe Business Intelligence Data Engineer is a hybrid role that bridges Business Intelligence (BI) analytics and data engineering within the Global Reporting & Analytics (GRA) environment. This role is designed for a hands-on professional who is both able and willing to develop dashboards and analytical products while also supporting data engineering activities on the Databricks-based data platform.
The Business Intelligence Data Engineer partners closely with the Lead Data Engineer and BI/Data Analysts to ensure high-quality, scalable, and well-modeled data assets that enable trusted reporting, advanced analytics, and effective decision-making. This role requires a higher technical skillset than a traditional BI analyst, with strong SQL capabilities, exposure to Python, and prior experience with data engineering concepts, while maintaining a strong business-facing and product-oriented mindset.
In summary, as the Business Intelligence Data Engineer , you will:
- Design and deliver high-quality dashboards and analytical products using Power BI, partnering with stakeholders to translate business needs into actionable insights.
- Ensure BI solutions are intuitive, performant, and aligned with standardized definitions and metrics.
- Support the Lead Data Engineer in developing and maintaining data pipelines and transformations within the Databricks platform.
- Write and optimize SQL and Python-based transformations to produce curated, analytics-ready datasets.
- Assist with data integration, data quality checks, and validation processes.
- Contribute to analytical data models and semantic layers that support scalable, trusted reporting.
- Act as a technical bridge between BI Analysts and Data Engineers, enabling effective use of data platform capabilities.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to deliver end-to-end analytical solutions and continuously improve BI and data assets.
Qualifications
You must possess the below minimum qualifications to be initially considered for this position. Preferred qualifications are in addition to the minimum requirements and are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates.
The candidate must have an unrestricted right to work for Huntsman in Costa Rica.
All candidates are expected to work at our office in AFZ, Heredia on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Please note that there may be occasions where additional office days are required, due specific business needs.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Analytics, Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, Statistics, Economics, or a related field.
- 2–5 years of experience across BI, analytics, or data engineering roles, with demonstrated hands-on experience in both dashboard development and data preparation.
- Strong SQL skills, including writing complex queries and optimizing performance.
- Working experience with Python for data transformation or automation (not necessarily advanced software engineering).
- Experience developing dashboards and semantic models in Power BI (including DAX).
- Experience working with cloud-based data platforms, preferably Databricks or similar technologies.

- Exposure to data governance, data quality frameworks, or master data concepts.
