Job Description:

The Opportunity

We are seeking a driven and commercially minded EU Sales Manager to lead business development and sales for Power Consulting across Europe, with a primary focus on the United Kingdom and a secondary remit spanning the broader European market. Based in the UK, this role is critical to establishing and growing our consulting footprint with UK utilities, transmission operators, developers, industrials, and emerging market segments such as data centres and e-mobility.

You will interact closely with Hitachi Energy's broader regional Sales and Business Unit (BU) teams, ensuring Power Consulting is positioned as a differentiated, high-value partner across the European energy transition. This is a high-impact, high-autonomy position for a commercially strong individual with a deep understanding of the UK and European power sector.

Please note we are unable to provide visa sponsorship for this position.

How You'll Make an Impact

UK Market Development

  • Serve as the primary business development lead for Power Consulting in the UK, building and managing a targeted opportunity pipeline across utilities, transmission system operators (National Grid ESO, Scottish Power Transmission, etc.), renewables developers, industrials, data centre operators, and e-mobility players.

  • Leverage your existing UK network to develop trusted relationships with key customer decision-makers, influencers, and procurement stakeholders, supported by the broader Hitachi Energy account management team.

  • Proactively identify and shape consulting opportunities in areas such as offshore wind grid integration, network planning, power quality, HVDC corridor studies, flexibility and storage, and digital grid solutions.

  • Monitor UK energy market developments, regulatory landscape (Ofgem, REMA, Connections Reform), and competitive dynamics to proactively position Power Consulting offerings and inform service development.

European Market Expansion

  • Extend the UK success model across continental Europe, developing new opportunities and expanding scope with existing customers across the region in close collaboration with Hitachi Energy's European Sales and BU organisations.

  • Define and execute key sales and business development activities across the four Power Consulting units, setting targets for volume, margin, and portfolio mix for the European region.

  • Facilitate collaboration with other Hitachi Group companies and strategic partners to drive consulting growth and co-develop digital portfolio offerings, particularly in the data centre and e-mobility segments.

  • Build and maintain relationships with European utilities, grid operators, developers, and energy authorities to create a sustainable pipeline across multiple markets.

Sales Execution & Proposal Leadership

  • Lead the full sales cycle – from opportunity identification and qualification through to proposal strategy, negotiation, and contract close – ensuring high win rates and commercially sound outcomes.

  • Develop compelling proposal narratives and competitive differentiators (technical, commercial, risk profile, delivery approach) for key pursuits across the EU region.

  • Support risk management by identifying and mitigating commercial and contractual risks during proposal and contract negotiation phases.

  • Maintain clear and regular communication with internal stakeholders across the four consulting units and with the Hitachi Energy Sales and BU teams to ensure alignment and successful execution of the sales cycle.

Market Positioning & Thought Leadership

  • Conduct market and competitive analysis; monitor trends and identify opportunities to proactively shape Power Consulting offerings for the European energy transition.

  • Represent Hitachi Energy Power Consulting at relevant industry events, working groups, and conferences across the UK and Europe to build brand awareness and generate demand.

  • Contribute to thought leadership content, white papers, and client-facing materials that demonstrate technical credibility and differentiate Power Consulting in the European market.

Values & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures, and guidelines.

  • Live Hitachi Energy's core values of safety and integrity, which means taking responsibility for your own actions while caring for your colleagues and the business.

Your Background

  • At least a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Energy Systems, Business, or a related field; a Master's or PhD is an advantage.

  • 8+ years of experience in sales, business development, or consulting within the power systems or energy sector, with a demonstrable track record of developing and closing consulting or advisory engagements.

  • Significant experience working in the UK energy market is essential – including familiarity with UK utilities, transmission system operators, Ofgem regulatory processes, and the broader GB electricity market structure. An established network of relevant contacts in the UK energy sector is highly desirable.

  • Knowledge of power systems, including areas such as renewable energy integration, grid modernisation, HVDC, offshore wind, energy storage, power quality, and digital energy solutions.

  • Experience working across broader European energy markets and understanding of European grid operators, regulatory bodies, and energy transition policy frameworks is advantageous.

  • Demonstrated success in consultative selling: ownership of client relationships and capture cycles (discovery → scoping → proposal → negotiation → close).

  • Comfort operating with high autonomy, building structure from ambiguity, and balancing business development activity with delivery support as required.

  • Candidate must have valid work authorisation to be employed in the United Kingdom.

  • Willingness to travel across the UK and Europe as required (up to 40%).
