Business Development Representative

100% Remote | Base + OTE $5000 AUD | Flexible Hours | Unlimited Paid Leave | Generate New Business

This is a sales role, not an email marketing or copywriting role.

We are hiring a commercially driven outbound salesperson to create qualified opportunities and new business for Trialfacts. You will prospect academic researchers and commercial sponsors running clinical trials at leading institutions and organisations such as Harvard, Yale, Bayer and Novo Nordisk.

Email will be your primary prospecting channel, but your real responsibility is to produce results. You will research the right prospects, identify commercially relevant reasons to contact them, start conversations and turn interest into qualified sales opportunities.

We are looking for a hunter who is motivated by targets, commission and winning new business. When something is not working, you will be expected to review the targeting, message and approach, then make the changes needed to improve the result

The role offers flexibility in how the hours are managed, but it requires the capacity and focus of a substantial ongoing engagement. It is not designed to be taken on as a second job alongside another regular role.

What you get

The work:

  • Own the day-to-day execution of Trialfacts’ outbound sales channel, including prospect research, messaging, sequences, reply handling and meeting generation.
  • Build qualified pipeline and create new business opportunities for the account management team.
  • Earn commission based on the new qualified deals your outbound work generates.
  • Work directly with experienced salespeople and account managers who will teach you the clinical trial recruitment market, our target audiences and what makes researchers and commercial sponsors buy.
  • Use AI tools to research faster, personalise outreach and improve campaign performance.
  • Work with our development team to improve data, lead lists and outbound systems.
  • Have the opportunity to develop broader sales and closing skills. Consistently strong performers may be considered for future Account Executive opportunities as the sales function grows.

The benefits:

  • Base with OTE AUD $5,000
  • 100% remote, work from anywhere, no location restrictions
  • No time tracker or fixed daily schedule. We focus on results, ownership, and responsiveness.
  • Unlimited paid leave, no approval process, plus a company-wide December closure
  • TailorFit Wellness Fund covering physical, mental, emotional, social, and professional wellbeing
  • 17 weeks parental leave at 50% pay
  • Equipment support and company-paid training

Trialfacts is rated 4.5/5 on Glassdoor with a 4.9/5 for Culture & Values. 92% of reviewers recommend it to a friend.

What the team says:

'Best remote work experience. Like working in an amazing multinational company, but from home.'  -Current employee, Glassdoor

'Tons of ownership without micromanaging.'   -Current employee, Glassdoor

About Trialfacts

We recruit participants for clinical trials, connecting academic researchers and commercial sponsors with the right people for their studies. Our clients are academic health researchers at universities in the US and Australia, plus a growing commercial segment that includes pharma, biotech, CROs, and research sites.

We've been doing this for 19 years. 1,097 studies. 476 client organisations. 35,000+ participants enrolled. 35 team members across 7 countries. Our mission is to accelerate cures in 10 major diseases, and the researchers and sponsors you email are working on real studies that could become treatments.

We've decided cold email here should be one well-researched email at a time, not a high-volume blast. The credibility is real (Harvard, Yale, Bayer and Novo Nordisk clients, over a thousand studies, a 0.7% refund rate), and there's a lot worth writing about. What's missing is someone to turn that into outreach researchers and sponsors actually reply to.

What you'll do
  • Research the contact. Read a researcher's published work or a sponsor's pipeline and find the specific, true detail that makes a cold email worth opening. Genuine personalisation, not a first name merged into a template.
  • Write the email. Write the first email and the follow-ups: short, clear, persuasive, typo-free, and genuinely about the person receiving it. The writing is the work, and it's what earns the reply.
  • Run the channel. Build and run the sequences in our sending platform, control who receives what, and manage how much goes out.
  • Handle the replies. Read incoming replies, respond well, book the intro call where there's interest, and hand qualified conversations to the closers. Use AI tools to research faster and write better while keeping the email personal and accurate.
  • Test and improve. Run split tests, try new campaigns, read the results, and double down on what lifts reply and booking rates. Flag where a list is weak or a step is slow, and work with the dev team to fix it.
You're a strong fit if you
  • Have proven B2B outbound sales experience.
  • Have worked towards sales, pipeline, meeting or opportunity targets.
  • Can provide clear examples of meetings, opportunities, pipeline or deals you personally generated.
  • Have a hunter mindset and remain persistent through silence, rejection and setbacks.
  • Take personal responsibility for results rather than waiting for someone else to fix the list, message or process.
  • Have strong commercial judgement and can recognise what matters to a prospect.
  • Write clear, concise and persuasive business emails.
  • Can research decision-makers and accounts thoroughly.
  • Are confident handling replies and moving conversations towards a meeting.
  • Have experience using a CRM, sales engagement platform, or outbound tool.
  • Use AI tools thoughtfully to improve research, personalisation, and productivity.

Previous success with email-led outbound is strongly preferred, but it is not the only path into this role.

You may currently be succeeding in a phone-heavy or mixed-channel SDR or BDR role. What matters is that you have the sales drive, research ability and written communication skills to generate results through email-led outbound.

This role is for you if
  • You want to own a channel outright: your research, your messages, your sequences, your numbers
  • You believe a well-researched, well-written email beats the blast, and you want to work somewhere that already agrees
  • You care about the quality of every email, not just the volume. Attention to detail matters here.
What happens when you apply

Our hiring process is thorough. That's by design. It protects you as much as it protects us.

  1. Application with a few screening questions and a short writing sample, so we can see how you write
  2. Initial screen with Ana to understand your background and assess fit
  3. Interview with Matt to dig into your outbound experience and how you work. This may include a live, observed writing exercise, so we can see you research a real contact and write the email in the room.

Skills Required

  • Proven B2B outbound sales experience
  • Experience working toward sales, pipeline, meeting or opportunity targets
  • Can provide clear examples of meetings, opportunities, pipeline or deals personally generated
  • Hunter mindset; persistence through silence, rejection and setbacks
  • Strong commercial judgement and ability to recognise what matters to a prospect
  • Write clear, concise and persuasive business emails
  • Ability to research decision-makers and accounts thoroughly
  • Confidently handle replies and move conversations toward meetings
  • Experience using a CRM, sales engagement platform or outbound tool
  • Use AI tools to improve research, personalisation and productivity
  • Previous success with email-led outbound
