Your role and responsibilities

In this role, you will have the opportunity to drive business growth and market expansion for ABB’s Process Industries portfolio across Australia. You will be responsible for developing and executing sales strategies for products, systems, and services within the Process Industries segment (including mining, minerals processing, metals, pulp & paper, and related sectors), aligned with divisional objectives.

Each day, you will deliver both qualitative and quantitative sales outcomes to ensure sustainable order growth, revenue generation, profitability, increased market share, and high levels of customer satisfaction. You will also leverage your expertise to identify, develop, and convert new business opportunities while strengthening relationships with existing customers.

The work model for the role is: Onsite, Perth CBD
This role is contributing to the Process Industries division in Australia (ANZ region). Main stakeholders include customers in mining and heavy industry, EPCs (Engineering, Procurement & Construction firms), internal sales and service teams, product management, and regional leadership.
You will be mainly accountable for:

  • Developing and executing business development strategies to grow ABB’s footprint across key Process Industries segments in Australia.

  • Building strong relationships with customers and partners, understanding their operational needs, and positioning ABB’s value proposition effectively.

  • Communicating with customers on technical and commercial aspects such as delivery timelines, pricing, payment terms, and contract conditions, in line with ABB strategy.

  • Identifying and driving new market opportunities, including greenfield projects, brownfield expansions, and digital/service offerings.

  • Leading opportunity development from identification through to closure, including coordination of proposals, negotiations, and contract finalization.

  • Ensuring effective marketing and customer engagement activities to promote ABB’s solutions, including participation in industry events and forums.

  • Collaborating with internal stakeholders to deliver integrated solutions (automation, electrification, digital) that meet customer requirements.

  • Managing sales processes and CRM activities, supporting forecasting accuracy, order intake, and cash collection where required.

  • Providing market intelligence and feedback to shape business strategy, product development, and competitive positioning.

Qualifications for the role

  • You are highly skilled in business development, key account management, and solution selling within the process industries (mining, metals, minerals, or heavy industry) market.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in sales, business development, or commercial roles, ideally working with automation, electrification, or industrial digital solutions.

  • Proven track record in developing and closing complex, high-value deals, preferably within mining or large industrial projects.

  • You possess strong knowledge of industrial automation systems, drives, control systems (e.g., DCS/PLC), electrification solutions, or digital applications.

  • You are passionate about building long-term customer relationships, driving growth, and delivering customer-centric solutions.

  • Strong commercial acumen with the ability to negotiate contracts and manage margins effectively.

  • Degree in Engineering, Business, or a related discipline.

  • You are at ease communicating in English, with strong stakeholder engagement and presentation skills.

  • You hold a valid driver’s license and full Australian working rights.

The Process Industries Division serves the mining, minerals processing, metals, cement, pulp and paper, battery manufacturing, and food and beverage, as well as their associated service industries. The Division brings deep industry domain expertise coupled with the ability to integrate both automation and electrical systems, increase productivity and reduce overall capital and operating costs for customers. For mining, metals and cement customers, solutions include specialized products and services, as well as total production systems. The Division designs, plans, engineers, supplies, installs and commissions integrated electrical and motion systems, including electric equipment, drives, motors, high power rectifiers and equipment for automation and supervisory control within a variety of areas including mineral handling, mining operations, aluminum smelting, hot and cold steel applications and cement production. The offering for the pulp and paper industries includes control systems, quality control systems, drive systems, on-line sensors, actuators and field instruments. Digitalization solutions, including collaborative operations and augmented reality, help improve plant and enterprise productivity, and reduce maintenance and energy costs.
