Role Purpose
The Commercial Manager, Philippines will be responsible for supporting and growing Boku’s commercial presence in the Philippines. This individual will focus on business development, partner management, merchant growth, and local market engagement while working closely with regional and global teams across product, compliance, operations, and account management.
The ideal candidate is a commercially driven professional with solid knowledge of the Philippine payment ecosystem, strong relationship management capabilities, and experience working with payment partners, merchants, and local stakeholders.
This is a hands-on role suited for someone who enjoys both strategic planning and day-to-day execution in a fast-growing payments environment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Commercial Growth & Market Development- Support and execute the Philippines market growth strategy in alignment with Boku’s regional and global objectives.
- Identify market opportunities, competitive trends, and emerging payment developments within the Philippines.
- Drive merchant acquisition and support revenue growth across key verticals including digital goods, gaming, e-commerce, and financial services.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with local payment partners, e-wallet providers, telecom operators, banks, and merchants.
- Support onboarding and enablement of local payment methods for global merchants.
- Coordinate with internal teams to ensure smooth merchant launches and ongoing account support.
- Represent Boku in local industry discussions, merchant meetings, and relevant industry events.
- Develop relationships with local ecosystem participants including payment institutions, fintech partners, and industry associations.
- Monitor developments in the local payments and regulatory landscape and share market insights with regional leadership.
- Work closely with global product, compliance, and operations teams to ensure local payment solutions meet market and regulatory requirements.
- Support local partner integrations, operational processes, and issue resolution.
- Assist with compliance-related activities and maintain awareness of local regulatory expectations.
- Collaborate effectively with regional commercial, account management, product, and compliance teams.
- Contribute to a high-performance, customer-focused culture aligned with Boku values.
- Support knowledge sharing and best practices across the APAC organization.
Key Skills and Competencies
1. Education- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics, Finance, Marketing, or related field.
- 5–8 years of experience in payments, fintech, e-commerce, telecommunications, or financial services.
- Experience in business development, account management, partnerships, or commercial roles within the payments industry.
- Demonstrated ability to manage external partnerships and support revenue growth initiatives.
- Experience working with local payment providers, merchants, or telecom operators in the Philippines is preferred.
- Good understanding of the Philippine payments ecosystem, including e-wallets, online banking, telecom billing, and digital payment trends.
- Familiarity with key local payment players such as GCash, Maya, GrabPay, ShopeePay, major banks, and telecom operators is advantageous.
- Understanding of PSP business models and merchant payment requirements.
- Strong relationship management and communication skills.
- Commercially minded with strong organizational and execution capabilities.
- Ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced, international environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Fluent in English; proficiency in Filipino/Tagalog is an advantage.
