Job Description

Ramsay Health Care is seeking a strategic and commercially driven Business Development Manager to accelerate growth across Frances Perry House and our National Maternity portfolio by building and strengthening our Visiting Medical Officer (VMO) pipeline. This role plays a critical part in shaping the future clinical and commercial performance of one of Australia's leading private maternity hospitals and supporting the continued growth of Ramsay’s maternity services nationally. You will be responsible for identifying, recruiting, onboarding, and retaining high-value VMOs across Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Neonatology, Paediatrics, and related specialty areas. You will act as the primary relationship manager for prospective and early-career VMOs, working closely with hospital executives, GP Liaison Officers, and industry partners to build sustainable referral pathways, enhance clinician engagement, and drive long-term growth across the maternity network. Through strong stakeholder relationships and market insight, you will help strengthen Ramsay’s position as a leading provider of private maternity and women's health services while supporting exceptional outcomes for patients, clinicians, and hospitals.

What You’ll Do

You will lead the end-to-end development of VMO growth strategy across your assigned catchments, with a strong focus on pipeline creation, relationship development, and utilisation optimisation.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve, but are not limited to:

  • Identify, engage, and convert high-potential VMOs aligned to hospital growth priorities and specialty demand.
  • Build and maintain long-term relationships with registrars, fellows, and early-career specialists throughout their training journey.
  • Develop and manage specialty-specific pipelines across priority areas including Cardiology, Orthopaedics, Urology, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, and Neurosurgery.
  • Leverage medical device, pharmaceutical, and industry partnerships to generate leads and market intelligence.
  • Manage end-to-end VMO onboarding, ensuring seamless integration into hospital services and workflows.
  • Conduct structured 1, 3, 6, and 12-month check-ins to support early utilisation and long-term retention.
  • Analyse VMO utilisation and theatre activity to identify growth opportunities and revenue optimisation strategies.
  • Re-engage VMOs operating at competitor facilities and support transition into Ramsay hospitals.
  • Partner with hospital executives and perioperative teams to improve theatre utilisation and Net Patient Revenue outcomes.
  • Contribute to succession planning for retiring VMOs and mitigate risk of service or revenue loss.
  • Maintain accurate CRM records (Sugar CRM) and provide regular reporting on pipeline activity, revenue impact, and KPIs.
  • Monitor competitor activity and emerging market trends to inform proactive growth strategies.
  • Collaborate with GP Liaison Officers, hospital leadership teams, and marketing to drive coordinated growth initiatives.

What You’ll Bring

You are a commercially astute, relationship-driven professional with strong healthcare or complex B2B experience, and a proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and deliver measurable growth outcomes.

Key capabilities:

  • Tertiary qualification in Business, Marketing, Health Administration, or related discipline.
  • Extensive experience in business development, sales, or relationship management.
  • Demonstrated success in achieving and exceeding revenue or growth targets.
  • Experience managing long sales cycles and multi-stakeholder engagement environments.
  • Strong background in healthcare, medical devices, pharmaceuticals, or complex B2B sectors (highly regarded).
  • Exceptional relationship-building and communication skills, with confidence engaging senior executives and medical professionals.
  • Strong commercial acumen with the ability to interpret data and develop business cases.
  • Understanding of private healthcare funding models, medical workforce structures, and hospital operations (desirable).
