Sompo has a unique opportunity for a Business Development Senior Analyst. The position is based in our New York Office reporting into the SVP, Business Development Strategy and Analytics. Flexibility to work at other office locations including Morristown NJ, Garden City NY or Purchase NY upon approval.
The Business Development team plays an important role with decision making responsibility and strong influence that will lead the effort to raise corporate profile, effectiveness, and reputation by deepening and extending our agency relationships and impacting strategic initiatives/business development efforts.
The role is responsible for leading Sompo’s NA Insurance business development analytics, reporting, and executive presentations across distribution channels and business units. This position serves as a central point of expertise for complex data requests, recurring executive reporting, and ad-hoc strategic analysis, partnering closely with Business Development leadership, product heads, finance, and operations teams. This position owns the design, maintenance, and evolution of reporting processes across Power BI, MicroStrategy, and Excel, while also ensuring high data quality standards. In addition to recurring reporting, the position supports high-visibility strategic initiatives including cross-selling programs, territory development, broker targeting, delegated programs, AI pilots, and client-specific performance analysis.
What you will be doing
- Developments, and maintenances of all aspects of BI solutions – ETL, Data Quality, Visualization, Documentation, and Production movement
- Analyzes data to provide insights
- Collaborates with stakeholders to understand their data needs
- Delivers recommendations based on data analysis
- Ensures data accuracy and integrity in all analysis processes
- Presents findings to stakeholders
- Drives continuous improvement in data analysis practices
- Own end-to-end delivery of recurring and ad-hoc business development reporting
- Design, enhance, and maintain Power BI dashboards used by leadership, underwriting, and broker-facing teams
- Acts as a subject matter expert for Salesforce, production, and submission data, including broker mappings and data quality remediation
- Manages complex, multi-source data pulls from Salesforce, MicroStrategy, and backend reporting systems
- Partners with senior stakeholders to translate business questions into actionable reporting and analysis
- Supports strategic initiatives including broker diversification, cross-sell identification, territory development, and AI-driven analytics projects
- Leads quarterly and monthly reporting initiatives for major broker relationships, business units, and regional teams
- Identifies opportunities to migrate manual Excel-based processes into scalable Power BI solutions
- Develops and maintains data models, ensuring data accuracy and consistency
What you’ll bring:
- 3-7 years of experience in insurance analytics, business development, underwriting support, or related commercial insurance roles
- Strong understanding of Property & Casualty insurance, including wholesale and retail distribution models
- Demonstrated expertise in Power BI development, dashboard design, and metric standardization
- Strong ability to analyze complex data and translate findings into actionable business insights
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present technical information to a non-technical audience
- Experience with Excel, Google Sheets, or similar tools for data analysis and reporting
- Strong understanding of data governance, data quality, and best practices in analytics
- Bachelor’s degree in data science, Business Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or related field.
- Proven ability to manage recurring executive-level reporting and complex, time-sensitive ad-hoc analysis
- Experience coordinating across underwriting, finance, operations, and technology teams
- Strong attention to data accuracy, process improvement, and documentation
- Experience mentoring or managing junior staff and overseeing reporting workflows
- High level of comfort working with ambiguity and incomplete data while meeting tight deadlines
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain data clearly to non-technical stakeholders
Salary Range: $70,000 – $110,000 Actual compensation for this role will depend on several factors including the cost of living associated with your work location, your qualifications, skills, competencies, and relevant experience.
