Position Overview

SUMMARY (Basic Purpose of the Job)

Reporting to the Director of Emergency Preparedness and Business Continuity, supports business continuity and emergency management operations, special projects, risk assessments, planning, and exercise cycle. Guides and assists departments in development, implementation, facilitation, and coordination of departmental business continuity plans. Plans, coordinates, and conducts exercises to test preparedness and response. Assists with other emergency management activities as directed. Supports departmental strategy and philosophy centered on organizational resilience and stakeholder preparedness. Investigates incidents and makes recommendations to work areas and departments to improve work practices, increase preparedness and reduce risks. Monitors compliance with regulations and coordinates, organizes and develops policies as requested.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education:

Bachelor's Degree in Business Continuity, Risk Management, Emergency Management or related field.

Experience:

Two years of experience in healthcare-related field to include business continuity, disaster recovery, or risk management; OR four years experience in business continuity, disaster recovery, or risk management.in lieu of degree.

Knowledge and Skills:

Ability to capitalize on business opportunities to refine production processes to mitigate exposure during disruption service without adversely affecting day-to-day operations. Excellent attention to detail and "follow through" skills. Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills. Familiarity with healthcare business operations, emergency preparedness, including CMS and DNV related criteria. Ability to effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously and ability to respond quickly in a fast paced environment.

Special Training:

Proficient Microsoft office, specifically word, presentation, and excel/data base software. Knowledge of Haz-Mat Operations, ICS 300, and NIMS awareness.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Supports Capital Health's ability to maintain operations and recover from disruptive incidents, such as natural disasters, cyber-attacks, or other unforeseen events.
  • Works with leaders across Capital Health to develop departmental and organizational business continuity plans.
  • Conducts risk assessments and business impact analyses (BIAs) to identify potential threats, vulnerabilities, and critical business functions.
  • Develops strategies and contingency plans to mitigate identified risks and ensure continuity of essential business operations.
  • Works closely with various departments, including IT, security, and human resources, to ensure a comprehensive and coordinated approach to business continuity
  • Represents CH Department of Emergency Preparedness and Business Continuity to internal and external committees and working groups as prescribed by the director.
  • Acts as Emergency Manager on-call for the health system on a rotating basis.
  • Knows when to activate the facility's emergency operations plan and hospital command center.
  • Manages disaster response or crisis management activities for the facility. Ensures availability of staff 24/7 to respond to disaster or potential disaster situations.
  • Manages responsibility for compliance and education for DNV-GL requirements as related to emergency preparedness and management. Works with all clinical and non-clinical areas to oversee training necessary to mitigate effect of any unexpected emergency or disaster. Provides training to administrative staff that will function in Emergency Operations Center (EOC) during an event.
  • Attends workshops, conferences, and various meetings in order to learn new information and network with colleagues.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
