Job Duties and Responsibilities
We are seeking a Broadcast Site Reliability Engineer (BSRE) to join our team to maintain the reliability and performance of our satellite and streaming channels. A BSRE will bridge the gap between IT and broadcast operations by taking on operational tasks and responsibilities typically handled by operations teams.
The essential functions of this job position include but are not limited to, monitoring, automating, and improving the reliability, performance, and availability of DISH and Sling systems. They will be responsible for tasks such as preventing incidents, managing infrastructure, building effective monitoring systems, and ensuring the smooth operation of critical systems.
The BSRE will identify and resolve issues with various channels delivered to DISH and Sling customers and will record details of the events as they unfold for post-event analysis and corrective actions. Key Responsibilities:
- Use the monitoring systems (for alerting and dashboards) for local, national, and international channels
- Take action to restore channels or bring up additional server/infrastructure capacity
- Coordinate with internal departments/stakeholders to troubleshoot and resolve broadcast/content/network/maintenance issues
- Build and maintain monitoring that alerts on symptoms rather than on outages
- Measure and optimize system performance, with an eye toward pushing our capabilities forward, getting ahead of customer needs, and innovating for continual improvement
- Perform system and web-server administration, writing scripts, engaging in network protocols, and conducting remote administration of servers and network devices
- Triage internally reported and executive escalated single-user issues
- Support Video Services Incident Operations model by acting as an engagement and tooling resource during high-severity incidents
- Working on-call shift to prevent incidents from occurring
- Perform support activities to restore channel outages or remove channels due to contractual expiration
- Document and disseminate provider-initiated maintenance activities
- Document maintenance activities that require team to take action
- Propose solutions and improvements to enhance engineering processes
- Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines during engineering activities
- Report safety concerns, incidents, and near-misses promptly
- Adhere to safety protocols and ensure a safe working environment for all team members, including following industry-specific safety regulations

Skills, Experience and Requirements
Education and Experience:
- An associate's degree or two years of experience/training in related fields is recommended; or a Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in computer science or related discipline
Skills and Qualifications:
- Ability to work any schedule as assigned in order to meet the needs of the 24/7 business
- Ability to prioritize work during high-pressured situations
- Proactive approach to identifying problems, performance bottlenecks, and areas for improvement
- Can be identified as a technical leader for specialization and recommend changes to procedures
- Ability to collaborate and communicate at a high level, including the ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure documents
- Ability to serve as mentor for both new employees and peers
- Ability to train new employees on SOPs and general department/role knowledge
- Ability to explain the 'why' behind department procedures and how assigned area relates to other departments
- Possesses an enthusiastic, go-for-it attitude
- Ability to monitor services that include adult content without objections
- Exceptional attention to detail in maintaining precise and organized records
- Effective time management skills to prioritize tasks and meet project deadlines
- Proficiency in using software tools for data entry and report preparation
Preferred Skills:
- Proven work experience as a Site Reliability Engineer or similar role
- Relevant training and/or certifications as a Site Reliability Engineer
- Previous success in technical engineering
- Coding experience beyond simple scripts
- Ability to program (structured and OOP) using one or more high-level languages, such as Python, Java, C/C++, Ruby, and JavaScript

Salary Ranges
Compensation: $20.72/Hour - $29.61/Hour

The base pay range shown is a guideline. Individual total compensation will vary based on factors such as qualifications, skill level, and competencies; compensation is based on the role's location and is subject to change based on work location. Candidates need to successfully complete a pre-employment screen, which may include a drug test and DMV check.
